The Island Cafe opens for the season on Hayden Island!
Yesterday I attended the first Phlocking of the year at the seasons opening of the Island Cafe. What's a phlocking you may ask? Well..as a member of the Key Northwest Parrot heads in Portland Oregon, we went enmasse (well, hooked up at our own pace...island time and all) at the Island Cafe that is right on the Columbia river.
When you pull off the Jantzen Beach exit, and head down Tomahawk Island Dr. you feel like you're in some other place other than Portland..a nice summer community made up of floating homes and boats.Walking down the pier to the Cafe, I could easily imagine I was walking into Fungi's in St. Thomas (ok..needed a bit more heat, but the imagination was willing).
With the trop/rock songs of Dave Calhoun putting everyone in the island spirit, I can say this was a good day. Living in Portland where it can rain a bit, the opening of this cafe signals warm weather to come! Fortunately, it was a dry day! I sat there in awe watching the may people wearing tee shirts and sandals...getting into the spirit of things, while I was pleasantly bundled up in my winter coat, scarf...and yes..gloves. Hey, those cool drinks are hell on your hands! There were many people that pulled up in there boats...or dingys from a nearby houseboat to enjoy the festivities...lots of folks dancing and celebrating spring.
Oh..life is good on Hayden Island at the Island Cafe! Check it out as it's now open for season!
