Home heating assistance program extended until April 15

The deadline to apply to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which provides cash grants of $300 or more that can be used to help pay regular monthly heating bills, has been extended until this Friday, April 15.

In addition to cash grants, LIHEAP also offers crisis grants to families facing heating emergencies such as broken heating equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced, a lack of heating fuel, or termination of utility service. The minimum crisis grant is $25; the maximum is $400.

Individuals with an income of up to $17,328 can qualify for LIHEAP assistance; a family of four can qualify with an income of up to $35,280. Complete income qualification guidelines and other information are available here.

Local residents can apply for the program by contacting the Delaware County Assistance Office's LIHEAP office at 610-447-3099. You can also apply online. Applications are also available at local utility companies and community service agencies, such as an Area Agency on Aging or community action agency.

School is never out for the Successful.

I agree. Feeding a family of 4 making the limit of $35,280 is tight enough. This may help someone to know it is available to them.
