Help me BRAND myself!!!

Living out here in the west, we feel that tattoos are rather tame and we go for the red-hot branding method.  Ok.  Just kidding on that one.  That's too painful, even for those of us who have been "drug through the dirt" of today's real estate market.

What I am talking about is creating a tagline that I can use on all my promotional materials that will tie it all together and help people remember me.  If you read our recent issue of Realtor Magazine, you will remember an article called Building Relationships that talked about this very concept.  This is important to me and I am currently starting on an adventure to build an online presence and to tie that into gifts/trinkets that I give to my clients or prospects in the "real" world.

My name is Robin so I was thinking of something along the lines of Rockn' Robin.  However, I'm not totally married to that idea.  I want the tagline to represent me.  I am very customer oriented and do an excellent job representing my clients.  However, I am also fun loving and enjoy the real estate transaction as well.  So I want something that sounds professional but not too stuffy.  AND since I am working on building an online presence, I want to be able to connect with the Internet savvy consumer.  It could also have something of the local Tucson flair since that is where I live and work.

The best tagline that I have gotten from my friends and family is: Rockn' Robin: Singing the Real Estate song.  It's cute, but I'm not sure how professional it would sound to someone who doesn't already know me.

I am asking for your honest opinions and suggestions, my fellow Active Rainers (or others who stumble across this).  Let me have it!!!  And if you think of a line that is funny or silly or downright absurd, I'd like to hear those too.  I really love to laugh and have a good time.

Robin - As someone who knows you - I'm not sure it fits. I say that without knowing if you have a theme already.

My initial thought would be something like Robin's Tuscon Homes and building a nest egg through Real Estate. I'm not sure how many would get that though. Are you investing in a new website or keeping your Superlative site?

Rick and Ines just did a three part series on branding and how they branded everything they do around their Miamism blog.

Please call me, maybe we can brainstorm. 317.605.4174

Robin,

There's a diamond merchant in Philadelphia who glues a diamond into his beard and acts all wierd in his television commercials while the theme "Rockin' Robin" blares in the background.  Fifteen years later, when I hear that song, I can't get his ugly mug out of my mind.  I guess the branding part worked after all, but I'd never buy from him because I hated the commercial.

We have to come up with something in keeping with your on-line persona--competent, confident, caring, committed to your clients...  There's a B&B in Texas called Robin's Nest.  What about something that plays on that theme?  Like Mi Nidito on 4th Street--my own little nest.  I'll click the notify me box, and revisit this tomorrow.  You've got me thinking, now.

Mike - Thanks for your input.  I guess if I used the Rockn' Robin theme I may not fare so well with anyone who's been subjected to that guy's commercials.  LOL

I had thought about the Robin's Nest theme and there's a lot you can do with that in terms of building your nest egg through real estate (like Paula mentioned) or lining your nest or even a reference to an empty nest.  I wasn't sure about that because it seemed so bland.  However, if done right it could work.

I am still thinking about this as well and appreciate and more ideas that you have.

Paula - Thank you for your offer to help me brainstorm.  I will be calling you.  I've been missing talking to you anyway and want to catch up with you.

Robin - I absolutely love the "robin's nest" idea. Remember that branding is not only about your tag line but also about a visual. The visual of the nest egg given by Paula is great - but it's a matter of seeing how it works. I was never comfortable with the tag line - and in my opinion is a bit "outdated" - but what do I know. We started with RICK AND INES, Your Property Pros (because we are an architect and accountant) - our website was www.YourPropertyPros.com.......but it didn't work. The fact that you are a Realtor and look for people's nesting places....it's a catchy idea. you don't have to use a Robin for the image, it could be a nest.....you could really get creative there.
