A Milestone and a New Fridge...

Today marks a milestone in my life. For the past 20+ years I've had the same 1980-ish "styling" tan refrigerator but today its time has finally passed.

Over the weekend it became more clear that the temperature inside the fridge was moving permanently warmer than the temperature outside my fridge.

Oh how I miss those first days when the ice machine actually worked and it was such a pleasure to be able to reach inside the freezer beyond the frozen peas and hamburger to find those perfectly shaped ice cubes in a plastic box just waiting, but then after a plastic bag got caught in the electric revolving engine that turned the cubes into the box, we reverted back to those delightful plastic ice trays – Oh I have loved cracking them and plopping in those ice cubes for the last 20 years into my delicious class of  Coke and Diet Coke…

I shall miss it so much that the second my wife nodded in agreement that I was immediately on my way to the appliance store – and this time I was there to do more than JUST LOOK!

I bet you can imagine how I must have felt knowing that this time I would be able to pull the trigger. Wow you should see what they have out there now – even refrigerators with remote controls, they can hook-up to my home network and the internet, and it will actually tweet me with updates and posts status to Facebook! I’m in Heaven!

The clincher was when the salesperson told me that I would be saving over $200 a year on my electric bill – holy crap if I would have just known that little piece of information a little sooner!

Oh well here's to my next 20 years!

Gary- Don't get your hopes up on the new fridge lasting 20 years- they don't make them like they used to.

It can actually be cheaper to buy a new appliance than continue to run energy guzzling ones.
