Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...
This is a re-blog from Melinda Peterson of Grants Pass Homes and Southern Oregon Real Estate Cafe.
I do think Melinda makes a great point and we the people should get more involved with politics and understand our Constitutional Rights. It's a privilege to vote and a duty to stand up for what you believe in. Always remember, "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America...." We are not pledging allegiance to the people who were elected to serve in Congress. I will remember this message that Melinda Peterson posted. To quote Melinda Peterson, "Let's see what the People of the United States of America can do with this message...Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As it Should Be...
Will you remember?

Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...
Of the 27 Amendments to the Constitution, seven took 1 year or less to become the law of the land... all because of public pressure. The 26th Amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple... The people demanded it. That was 1971... before computers, before e-mail and before cell phones.
Let's see what The People of The United States of America can do with this message...
Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...
1. Term Limits. Twelve years cumulative with one of the possible options below.
A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms
2. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.
3. Congress (past, present & future) will participate in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system and Congress participates with the American people.4. Congress will purchase their own retirement plan, just as the Americans people do.
5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay increases will be based on the lower of CPI or 3%.
6. Congress will lose their current health care system and must participate in the same health care system as the American people.
7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. Our Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators not cushy political careers. Perhaps we could affect real change by implementing the Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be... IMHO.
