Spotted in Cary, NC: Privacy Statement on Trash Cans...

Who comes up with this stuff?  For cryin' out loudIMAG0291.jpg

We can go on line and spill all our personal sordid details, and the Facebooks and GOOGS and Yahoos soak it all up, but, by golly, we need to be warned about what we throw in the trash down at the drugstore.

LOL

This lovely decorative sticker was on top of a trash can at one of Cary's newer CVS drugstores, at the corner of High House Road and Davis Drive.

Thank goodness!

Until I saw it, I was fixin' to toss my birth certificate, passport, AAA Membership card, SS card, Driver's License, and a ton of other stuff in.

Saved by the Sticker!

Mike, just when you think you've seen the most ridiculous warning label,.... LOL!  Thanks for sharing a good laugh.

Vickie,

I'd like to talk, but I think I'll go wash my toaster in the bath tub.....

Mike~ I wonder if the sticker was inspired by an actual need for it? Maybe folks were tossing their drug receipts as they left the pharmacy. I just looked at the receipt stapled on the drug store sack from a recent prescription of mine, and sure enough, it has a lot of personal info on it: my full address, the drug name and quantity, my name, my doctor's name, even my PHONE number and complete date of birth! It is certainly enough info for a good start on identity theft.

Liz,

I will have to look at ours.  That IS a lot of information, and probably mostly unneeded.
How effective do you suppose that sticker is?

They probably saw some guy pulling out empty pop cans with a portable dna analyzer in his shopping cart. Just a fair warning.

Mike~ Maybe not much. I sure had never really looked at the drugstore sack until I saw your post. I don't think I've ever thrown one of the sacks away at the drugstore, but I sure do throw them away at home. I'm going to be more careful with my own trash, so I guess I'd have to admit that your post has been effective with me.

Mike, you are funny, but I guess there was a need for it or they wouldn't have spent the money for the sticker.  Alas, there are some real dummies out there, could it have something to do with all of the medication they are on.  I think that contributes to so much bad driving in the world.  Too many people on medication that they shouldn't drive or throw things away while under the influence of.

Where's the definition of "personal information"?  I think they need to add an addendum :)

Glenn,

That's it!  Thanks for offering a logical explanation.

Liz,

We are pretty careful at home and shred a lot of stuff.  And the drug bags all go home.

Samantha,

Thanks!  And I hadn't thought of the ramifications of taking out the trash while under the influence of meds.

Diane,

Now yer talkin' like a real estate agent!  An addendum or two would make it all better.

Mike,

Lucky you.  Don't don't go and waste your good fortune by putting your hands under your power mower during operation.

I know in Texas we have a ton of Shred-a-Thons for destroying bank statements and the like.  I wonder if it was for Medical Information that people might just toss in there?  WOW!

If you want to dig up some trash on someone, it's far easier to get it from a social networking site.

Michael,

You can do that if you pull the plastic bag over your head...

Joshua,

I had to pop into Walgreens this morning, and I saw they had similar stickers, specifically addressing phamacy customers.

Cheryl,

That is the mother lode, isn't it?

Now we have to be ono the watch for people digging in trash cans at the CVS. Better not tell the legislature, pretty soon they could make it some kind of law that all waste receptacles would have to have this printed on it!

Hey, maybe the state could make some money by selling these stickers to stores after they waste millions on arguing about whether it should be a law.

Have a great Tuesday Mike!

Linda,

I actually worry more about letting stuff go in the trash can I take to the curb every week.

And, Thanks!
