You Have To Go and Grab That Business!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with BLRGUY(Beach & Luxury Realty Inc)

Quite a few realtors in this business seem to think business should just come to them. There are also some who seem to think business should be given to them.

Unfortunately,in real estate, that isn't how it works! In real estate, you have to take the bull by the horns and go out and get the business!

I have also heard, from a few associates out there,"Oh I have had to cut off all of my marketing because of the market we are in" Isn't this the type of market where you should be increasing your marketing....NOT decreasing it?

My friends....you have to spend money to make money!Getting business is not a right or something that you are anointed with!

Look around at the successful agents in this business...what are they doing?I'd be willing to bet, they haven't stopped their marketing!

When you get that next closing....set aside a marketing budget!Put those dollars to work,so you can make more! Stop the woe is me and get out there and work!

Great post. I agree you have to spend money to make money. You just can't stop marketing because it's slow  you have to buget your money.

I have to agree with you. In today's market, you definately need to set up a budget off every deal that comes in.

Danny if you aren't marketing yourself...you might as well go get a job because there are many hungry realtors out there who are marketing themselves!

More Good points BLRGUY,

The teaser successes and expansions of the last few years, has effected not only some agents attitudes  to how they can get by    in this industry..... (i.e. BE INDUSTRIOUS or....) as well as clouded the public as to the value and worth of those well trained in this  profession.

Our educational system does a rather poor job of training for self-employment. Likewise in realty, sadly many 'newbies' are more informed of "potential" than the reality of what it'll likely COST, in $$$,HOURS, and dedicated persistence, and continued learning.

One way or another within the profession- that educational process must be condensed and fully explained!  Some brokers, other agents are more successful at 'sharing' than others... same with those willing to listen and apply..

Maybe much more such teaching / seminars  needs to be done...the true numbers required..

Some would argue such would run off 80% of their new recruits- well, last time I heard the stats as well as any casual observation shows,  isn't it that other Twenty percent doing virtually ALL of the Business?

I agree with the teaching and seminars and stuff..BUT...they have to show up to them!Look at all the free education here on AR....but not everyone is signed up here to help their careers.

Man, you're so right.  At times most of feel like a hamster running on a wheel wondering when it's going to happen then bang all of a sudden you're overwhelmed with business.

Thanks for the great post. It is so true and you & I know of a local agent who told us she spent more in her marketing this year than she did in previous years. Hmmmm, it is no wonder she has business!

BLR Guy,

Thanks for the great post! You are right that we have to work even harder and smarter especially with the current down market. Nothing happens until we take actions. Marketing is key to our success.

"I can't afford to advertise", words that make a marketing person want to cry! You're right BLR Guy, what people need to realize is that in a market like this there is opportunity. For the individuals who didn't prepare and can't survive, they leave behind their former clients in search of a company and professional who did. Now be the one they find!

And I'll add (&  blrguy will agree no doubt ) to make sure that marketing includes having  a strong presence on the web!

You've got to wonder how many are spending their dollars in the wrong way.

Go and Grab that Business requires paying attention to where that business has shifted towards...(or away from).....
