Kennesaw, Georgia Hosts The Big Shanty Festival

Kennesaw, Georgia will celebrate Spring this weekend with the 36th annual Big Shanty Festival. The entire downtown area will be jam packed with people enjoying the best of today's fun-filled activities while at the same time enjoying the rich heritage of Kennesaw and the Civil War era.

The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival is host to one of the largest Arts & Crafts Shows in North Georgia. Visitors and residents alike will be able to browse through over 200 booths of the Southeast's finest artisans featuring a wide variety of beautiful and unusual items.

Over 55,000 people are expected to attend the Festival this year. The heart of downtown Kennesaw and the Southern Museum, home of that awesome iron horse, the "General", serve as the central location of this annual Festival. There will be a Civil War Encampment during the festival featuring the lifestyle, uniforms, and firearms of the Civil War era.

This year's Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival promises fabulous entertainment and fantastic food. Visitors and their families will enjoy Kennesaw's multi-talented performers, games for the kids and a variety of foods to please everyone's palate. Entertainment will include Kennesaw's famous Little General Cloggers; members of the Kennesaw Mountain Cloggers; members of Great Gig Dance Studio; as well as the ETO Demo Team. The Pickett's Mill, Bullard,Chalker, Hayes, Kennesaw, McCall, Big Shanty Elementary School Choruses will perform along with Pine Mountain, & McClure Middle Schools and North Cobb Christian school choruses. Allatoona High School Jazz Band will provide to awesome music.

To kick off the festivities - A PARADE - will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16th. The Parade features fabulous floats and proud marchers - over 2,000 youngsters alone representing every sport association and school in the area, plus the winners of Little Miss Cobb Beauty Pageant along with the winners of the Master, Miss, and Mrs. Kennesaw Pageant and Allatoona, Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb School Bands.  The Parade will start at Adams Park and continue down Main St. through downtown Kennesaw. The Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival is held in downtown Kennesaw on both sides of Main Street (Highway 293) and is co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw Business Association (a nonprofit organization).
