A Win for Safety at SugarHouse Casino

It's safe to say that the angry chants "ca-si-NO!", name slinging like "Sugar HELL", and the crazy uproar that was stirred up in the past few years has settled like a dust cloud of powdered sugar.

When SugarHouse Casino first opened, there were many mixed emotions from neighboring riverside communities such as Old CityNorthern LibertiesFishtown, and Port Richmond. Well, we have been paying attention, and things are well, pretty tame, half a year later.  In fact, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has stated that crime has not risen in the area, according to CBS News' report on a recent City Council meeting.

Whew. While there were a few incidents early on, there is now a specific police unit that covers the SugarHouse Casino site. We're just glad to see the Delaware Riverside get some much needed development and attention. We think we said it best last year: Perhaps The SugarHouse Casino development can be the catalyst that will really sweeten up Philadelphia's most neglected feature.

Why not check it out for yourself?

Christopher & Stephanie,

It's all about jobs and expanding the tax base. Whatever creates those is good.
