Networking for fun and profit! How many of you attend networking groups, and go immediately to someone you know; that SAFE person who you feel comfortable with? How many of you have watched a new person, with laser focus, come in and take the business of "your" friends and clients? How many of you just go for your own needs, without considering how you can help others?
As you go into a networking group, have a goal:
I will meet x number of people
I will ask for x number of referrals
I will provide connections for x number of people
I will stretch myself and sit with people I don't know
I will hone my commercials, practice them to make them clear, concise, with a CALL TO ACTION!
Yes, we need to have goals, even for our networking. Networking can be expensive; and, in my estimation, everything needs to pay for itself. X number of $$$$ out, must generate XXXXX number of $$$$ in! You MUST get yourself out of your comfort zone. Your commercial cannot be boring; it has to be energetic, entertaining and enlightening. When you stand, command the room; magnetize eyes to you!
Yesterday, I went to a new networking group, the 4 You, NAFE (National Association of Female Executives). I knew the producer, Robbie Motter, and the speaker, Iris Rosenfeld; I sat by neither. I listened carefully to other commercials, then utilized them. One of the ladies mentioned an international airport going moving from one city to another. As a real estate investor, I was the ONLY one who saw opportunity in that! So my commercial?
Ladies, am I the only one whose antennae went up when Robbie said this? What we're talking about is OPPORTUNITY! The Opportunity t get in the way of development and make MONEY. (Looking at a woman who works with the elderly) I'm tired of women reaching retirement age and not being able to retire. I'm tired of women living in poverty as the age. It is TIME for us to take control of our OWN future. Come to our workshop this Saturday; we'll show you how to buy and sell without your own money, without your own credit; then when you have a steady source of income, we'll show you how to manage your Property Managers. See me for a ticket to your free workshop!
It was a small group, and I didn't meet everyone. I only met 10 people; and made sure I had a real connection with those 10. I asked 2 for referrals. And I provided connections for 4 ladies who needed something.
Am I a successful networker? Not as successful as I will be. Yes, I connect easily. And I'm continually improving, honing my commercial. Continually practicing connecting. I've been called the Networking Queen; because I network, I ALWAYS have a connection for someone. If they say they need x (a carpet cleaner, a hair dresser, to book a trip, a mechanic, etc), I have a referral for them.
I'm ALWAYS looking to serve others, listening for ways that I can make a difference. And THAT'S what makes me successful.
