Digging in the dirt in Chesterfield, MO tonite

gardening

Tonite, I was able to do one of my favorite things… work in our yard.  It’s the time of the year when those Lowe’s commercials about gardening, dirt, and flowers really get me excited about getting out in the yard.  I was able to get out and pull the first weeds of the season this evening.  It seems like the warm weather of the past 10 days or so really accelerated the grass turning green and the weeds to sprout.    Believe me, I am not complaining.  After the cold and snowy winter, I am thrilled to be pulling weeds.

I just love feeling the soil in my fingers and watching a beautiful yard emerge as the cleanup proceeds.  The spring cleanup is something I look forward to all winter long.  I am always proud of how pretty our yard looks with the landscape beds cleaned up and full of spring flowers.  Even the dogwood trees are just exploding with color right now.

flowers

Spring is one of my favorite seasons.  The green grass, spring flowers and flowering trees are a flowery wonderland.  If you haven’t been to St. Louis in the spring, you have really missed a treat.  Washington DC might have cherry blossoms, but St. Louis has so many beautiful flowering trees, I wouldn’t miss spring here for anything!

Linda, I know just how you feel.  I looked forward to Spring gardening pretty much since the winter started and I am enjoying it so much right now before the extreme heat sets in.

Jim and Linda - don't those Lowes and Home Depot commercials get us gardeners every time. I just picked up some pansies, tulips and daffodils and I already have them in my garden - just couldn't resist adding more!

Kristine, Those commercials make me want to drive over and buy flowers right away.  Thankfully, both Lowes and Home Depot are close by :)

Linda, it is that time of year!  We may have to wait a few days, we awakened to a sciff of snow this morning, so I am in no hurry to plant anything for another week or two!

Linda: The flowers are starting to sprout. Soon the azaleas will begin to bloom. My favorite time of year. Even weeding is fun!
