Living in a Staged Home HORRORS!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

Now there's a headline that grabs your attention! After viewing an endless number of model homes while touring communities with clients I started to ponder how dreamy it would be to live in a model home. They are so pretty and well kept that it just stuns you every time you step foot in the door.

I decided to move recently and with a few months left on my lease I came to an agreement with my landlord that if I find a tenant for the property who will occupy it before my lease is up then I will be free of my lease and the new tenant's lease will take over. Being the self-proclaimed Orange County NY Real Estate expert that I am, I put an action plan into place to lease the apartment as quickly as possible which included one very special feature: staging. EVERYONE and their Aunt Pearl is staging something these days so I figured I should get in on the action and see how it works out. The end result? Have a look at the pics below:

Keeping a tidy kitchen is a 7 out of 10 on the scale of things that are next to impossible! The lack of dishwasher means every time you use a few dishes you have to clean them which then means you have to clean out the sink if you have a showing come up soon. Making eggs is suddenly a "Do I really need breakfast?" activity because my elite egg cracking skills always manage to get the egg on the stove top and burner surround. Any egg cracking suggestions?

Working from home is an unusual problem to have when living in a staged home because paperwork tends to mount and my living area plays host to paper Himalayas that form after every day of work. Potential renters + mountainous paper terrain = no deal.

And now I know why people don't live in model homes... It's impossible to actually LIVE there. I almost feel like I've completely moved out already but it's not all bad news. I posted an ad on Craigslist before putting the rental into the MLS and I received about six responses within 24 hours and have since had three showings. Fortunately it seems the very first showing is the most viable tenant for the property and I will be on my way soon! While I dream of Monroe NY new homes I will, without a doubt, miss my apartment.

Nice blog Joshua, great pictures and an awesome staging job!  I have my place for sale...and keeping my office picked up and ready to be shown is next to impossible!  My husband works early mornings and goes down for a nap about 2pm everyday....when he gets up I have to make the bed again!  It's neverending :)  Good luck!

LOL I think this is an excellent post. It's rarely to hear about staging from another side of the view. I am running a blog carnival on home staging, you should submit this post! You can submit to Blog Carnival directly via this link here, just click to enter. It's due before midnight on Friday.

Cheers,
