Insurance Company Adjuster Verses Independent and Public Adjuster.

Do you know the difference between a public adjuster and an insurance company adjuster?  The Public adjuster is on the side of the homeowner and protecting the mortgage company.

The Independent Adjuster works for the insurance company and is supposed to be a neutral party.

The Public Adjuster works for the homeowner and is paid with a percentage of the job of the loss, once the money is collected.

The insurance company adjuster works directly for the insurance company.

The insurance company has their representation and so should you.  If,  you have any issues with your claim or the insurance company wants to deny your claim.

Sometimes, insurance companies will underbid the loss, many people do not know this.   You need to know your coverage to hold the insurance company accountable for your loss.  If you have coverage, you need to know what coverage you have or do not have.  You need to know the value of your loss.  So, unless you are in the industry you will typically not know your coverage.

Insurance companies prefer using their preferred vendors but you do not have to use them.  The decision for choosing a contractor is entirely up to the homeowner.  The insurance company will not tell you this.  In fact, they will try to get you to use people on their list to get better pricing but I would suggest you getting 3 bids on your own.

I am not here to bad-mouth any insurance company but I am here to educate others and inform others and just help others through a process for the claim that he or she made on their homeowner's policy.  Most insurance adjusters will not tell you what I know, being in the industry for so long.

When I made homeowners claim to my home, they only wanted to give me x amount of dollars and I was like, what.  You must think I am crazy.  I had smoke damage to my entire house and so I have personally gone through the process and it was not a pleasant experience.  There was a lot of back and forth going on with me.  They wanted to negotiate a price.

The insurance companies use a pricing guide line or estimating software to come up with the figure that they want to pay the policyholder.  Insurance companies love to negotiate.  How would insurance companies like us negotiating our insurance premiums?

Before signing off on a figure, make sure you have your contractor involved and be certain that what the insurance company wants to pay is going to be enough to pay the contractor of your choice.  Insurance companies can not make you use the contractors of their choosing.  It is up to you, who you want to use or not use.

If I can be of further help, please feel welcome to call me about your concern and I will see what I can do to assist you or guide you in the right direction.
