This subject has dominated my thoughts lately. We recently decided we could better serve our clients and ourselves professionally with our own firm. Once we made the decision to open our own brokerage, we spent a tremendous amount of mental energy on naming the company.
Should we go with physical location, identify ourselves with our area? Include town names like Sylva, Cullowhee or Dillsboro? How about Jackson County? Maybe attach a location covering a larger area, like Western North Carolina, Great Smoky, Blue Ridge, or Appalachian Mountains? These names were frustrating us by the confinement they represented and the name similarity to most other local firms.
We considered physical attributes of the area. Maybe connect "Real Estate" somehow to trees, rushing rivers, babbling brooks, mountains, hills, or mountain views, river views, forest views...we started to lose sight of the forest for the trees! MoonDancer Realty came to us in a flash of brilliance once we freed ourselves from these self-imposed limitations of naming our company. We started to think of things that made us happy. What a concept, right? Once we chose our name, my business partner Leslie Rojohn, literally had the logo emerge from her imagination like Venus rising from the ocean! MoonDancer Realty, just thinking about our name and visualizing our logo makes me smile. I love handing out our cards and even more, I love the reception our cards get. Everyone notices the name, everyone remembers the logo, and everyone associates the name with us.
So, that's what's in our name! Now...how do we define ourselves as it relates to our profession? For one thing, we dance to the beat of a different drum...and always have. We are professional, but not stuffy. We take our business seriously, but also want to have fun with it. At MoonDancer Realty we define ourselves first and foremost as advocates for our buyers' and sellers‘ real estate needs. Our real estate licenses are precious to us and we are always educating ourselves about this continuously changing real estate profession and market. We embrace the idea of Agency and are fully confident in any role, whether it is Buyer, Seller or Dual Agency. We aren't comfortable until our clients are comfortable with our role as it relates to them in their real estate process.
Finally, we believe in long-term relationships, both business and personal. It isn't unusual for our clients to become our friends and for our friends to become our clients. We think the ice breaking effect of our name, MoonDancer Realty along with our own private, cozy office makes it easy to achieve our goal of combining friendliness and professionalism in an inviting atmosphere.
