Cute as a Monkey !

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

I haven't any idea what kind of monkey this is but he was so cute that I wanted to share him. While I was waiting to get into Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, I had to wait a while for my assigned entry time to come up and I was being entertained by this little guy. At first he was really too far into the enclosure to get a good shot. I kept calling to him and asked him if he would like to have his picture taken and I wasn't getting much of a response. He pretty much ignored me and kept doing what monkies do, jumping and swinging and having what seemed like a good time.

So I told him that I had had go now and this was his last chance. And as though he actually understood, he came right over and gave me his best side. The women standing beside me asked if I worked for the Zoo. When I just smiled, she said it was obvious this monkey knew me. Considering the fact that I hadn't seen him before, I told her that he just thinks I am related to him and we both went off smiling.

Such a face, as cute as a monkey, isn't he?

Hi Myrl, I think we must have known each other or possibly even related in a previous life. Very interesting story about your Dad and his affinity for liking monkeys and then NOT. When I was younger I did fantasize about wanting a Chimp but got over it fortunately before I ever did anything about it, LMAO.

Hi Myrl, I can also relate. Title reps thought it was a great way to endear themselves with food to the REALTORS in the office. There was always something. In our office the Broker owner knew that if he did breakfast meetings , everyone would show up and it worked. Something about food and being in real estate. And not to worry if something edible hits the floor, there was always a 5,10, or 30 second rule that allowed it to be eaten anyway, LOL.

Hi Don, I know you are right. Animals may not understand the spoken word but I think at some level the just get it.

Hi Keith, Thank you, I could visualize holding this one. That would be cool, especially if he didn't actually want to bite me, LOL.

Hi Debra, Either food or he just wants to be free. Perhaps the later. I wouldn't want to be caged because no matter how large it seems, it must get very confining after a while.

He's adorable and was probably just teasing you at first. Maybe he realized that he would become a star on ActiveRain and let you take his picture.

William, this is an amazing photo - super cute monkey. I've been to San Diego Zoo several years ago and loved it. The weather seems to be always perfect for staying outside and exploring the city. You're lucky to live in San Diego. Have a great week.

You know it is funny you said that because that was exactly what my first thought was when I first looked at the picture.  He just looked so scrunched in there and then I realized it was just the angle of the picture.  But that was my thought exactly-that he wanted out.  :-(

Hi Elizabeth, Thank you so much. You are right about the weather here, nearly every day is great for the zoo. The Wild Animal Park ( part of the Zoo) is way out East and it gets over a 100 degrees  many days during the summer. It is just too hot on some days. But the main zoo is more coastal so temps are moderate year around.

Hi Debra, You know I love the zoos here and have such a profound and wholesome respect for what they do and how well they do it. But I have got to tell you, there have been times when I have connected with animal or two and their expressions make me feel like  they just want to be free. I try not to think so much about that because it would not be very useful but when you look into those eyes you can really feel it. Somewhere in my past life I have had something major to do with animals I expect.
