I was at a local bank in a grocery store yesterday. I was stopping by to see a friend of mine who had gotten a job 6 months ago there as assistant branch manager. She took a break so we could talk for a few minutes. Well she was renting a house I had helped her get back in October when she got the job. Unfortunately her roommate had moved out and her ex stopped paying her child support. She was just barely getting by and we sat down and tried to figure out a budget. Unfortunately when it finally got down to it she was embarrassed to admit she was not paying her utility bill and they are about to shut it off. Well in Wisconsin from October 30th until April 15th they are not allowed to shut off utilities.
Well she was working until 7 pm and just paralyzed with fear that she would go home and everything would be shut off. I asked if she had called them --NO.
I certainly have been there before when you just let things build up and then get trapped not knowing what to do.
Short story I contacted Utility company and arranged payments and then got all her documentation for home energy plus program to help her pay the bill and get everything taken care of. Great program-If she made less than $8032 for 2 people for last 3 months-- she qualified.
I was not aware of this state of Wisconsin program before but it sure helped her out and now life is back to semi normal for her and I got fresh Chocolate chip cookies with nuts.
