Realtor Appreciation

By
Real Estate Agent with Falcon Property Company

When I first started in real estate I heard that the statistical average was, as a Real Estate Professional, that we would have to deal with and placate 71 people in any given transaction, so we had better be of good disposition.  That was amazing to me as I could not figure out where all of those people would possibly come from, and how was it going to be MY job to make everything run smoothly?

It didn't take long at all before I saw the reality of the statement.  Of course some deals will have less people involved, some will have more.  But as a licensed Realtor, I have often felt that a four-year-degree in psychology would not come amiss.  No matter which side you represent (or you might even represent both sides), from the beginning it is a fine line of getting along with the party with whom you are working to get a comfortable working relationship established.  You will also need to deal well with all of the showing coordinators, the Listing Agents, the homeowners, the other party in the transaction, the other Realtor, the Lenders, the appraisers, the surveyors, the inspectors, the insurance agents, the banks, the Title Company representatives, the Closer's assistant, the Closer . . . the list goes on and on.  And in the current market, there are often many more people involved with the banks and their various departments.

Realtor AppreciationWhen all is said and done, a Realtor is a highly educated Professional.  We can do all of this work and something might happen to the transaction that is totally out of anyone's control and it doesn't close, and the Realtor will not get paid for dozens or scores of hours worked.  How many people do you know that would work that long and that hard with the possibility of not getting paid?  If you are working with a licensed professional Realtor, be sure to thank him/her for all of the time and effort that they put in to make your transaction work smoothly.  And if they did a great job for you, be sure to tell your friends.  It is the referrals of past clients that enable a Realtor to continue offering the quality of service that made you appreciate them.

That is too, too funny, Melinda.  Sometimes it amazes me how much work I do that is in a non-paid capacity

You are so right, John - as with any profession, there are a lot of bad apples in any barrel.  And I sure have met my fair share of them :)

This is very well-put, Mimi! I don't think many people realize how much work it takes on the part of their Realtor to get deals done. If we don't "work and play well with others", the deals are likely to fall apart!
