Feeling grateful and Blessed today

Picture of azaleasIf you're here looking for something real estate related, awe-inspiring or funny, you may as well move on.  Today I am simply feeling grateful and Blessed and wanted to do more than just say it out loud.  That's also why you won't see any pictures of the destruction here -- I believe in focusing on the positive.

The South has been hit hard the last few days with terrible storms and tornadoes.  At least 39 lives have been claimed by the storms we've seen.  Residents of Wilmington NC were told on Friday to gear up for our share of major storm activity.  We were Blessed.  After taking everything in and battening down the hatches we only had some rain, thunder, lightning and a little wind.  In my opinion it could hardly call itself a storm.  Thank you, God!

Other areas of NC were not so fortunate.  The most recent news tells us that 22 NC residents lost their lives and more than 130 were injured.  Overall, NC saw 62 tornado touchdowns across 20 counties.

In Raleigh NC residents and business owners are banding together to help those who lost their homes and/or belongings to the storms.

Movers not Shakers in Raleigh has offered to move tornado victims' belongings to a storage unit for free this week. U-Haul is offering 30 days of free storage to those affected by the storms. The Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport hotel is offering a discounted rate to tornado victims, as well. People should ask for the distressed passenger rate.

If you would like to make a donation to help those affected by the storm, The Red Cross will accept donations online or at 1-800-733-2767.  Samaritan's Purse, Samaritan's Purse Logowho has dispatched three disaster relief units, is seeking volunteers to help with relief efforts.  You can get further information from their website.

Please remember the people affected, the responders and the relief organizations in your prayers.  It's going to take a while to clean up from this and even longer for some to heal.  Your prayers can go a long way in helping to make things easier on everyone affected.

Wherever you are today, I hope and pray that you are well, healthy and surrounded by those you love.  Seems so little to ask for, and yet, so much to have.  Wishing you a Blessed week!

Tish - you have had it hard compared to some of us. Glad to see you are OK. People are resilient, and come through hard times stronger.

So glad to hear your family is safe Tish.  This set of storms has caused havoc from Mississippi eastward.  You're absolutely right, we have so much to be thankful for.

Ron ~  Thanks -- our neighbors in Raleigh really got hit hard!

Barbara ~  We were prepared for a really rough time, but were spared.

William ~  The skies were incredible to watch, so we had the best of it.

Kathy ~  We're not in Tornado Alley -- this was just a very severe series of storms.

Christine ~  Believe me, we are very Blessed.

Liz & Bill ~  Thanks, we're fine.  Raleigh/Durham not so much.  My Grandson were in Raleigh for CAHA Tryouts, and my Son said they were about 50' from one of the tornados.  The hotel and the ice rink lost power which held things up, but that was the worst for them.

Larry ~  Lots of damage to the north of us here in NC.  We got the "pretty" part of the storms.

Don't you worry about me dear, this old body tells me when I need to take a rest.  Why do you think it took me 12 hours to do what I did today................twenty years ago, I'd have gotten that much done in 6 hours.

Tish I felt the same way when I posted "Quiet After the Storm" the morning after.  We have so much to be grateful for that we could spend the balance of our lives counting the things that we are grateful for and the many blessings that have been bestowed upon us.

Our hearts go out the family of those who lost loves ones during the storm. But know this: God is still God and he's still in the blessing business and even through adversity, there is a message, a lesson and a blessing waiting to happen to us all.

Lottie ~  We did great, but I will tell you I had to drive my son to the VA Hospital in Durham today and we drove past one area in particular which was very hard-hit!  Our Blessings abound.  Thank you so much for caring about us.
