Matthews NC Adds New Greenway To Its Park System
Historic Matthews NC has always been a great place if you want to live in a walkable small town. Shops, restaurants, a farmers market, the library, the post office and community events are all a short distance from many Matthews neighborhoods.
Now Matthews residents have a new option for hiking, jogging, and bicycling within the town. The Matthews Four Mile Creek Greenway officially opened on April 9, 2011. On that day, a short dedication ceremony with interactive activities and entertainment celebrated the newest park in Matthews.
The Matthews Four Mile Creek Greenway is a paved two-mile trail along Four Mile Creek. Trail A runs from East John Street to Brenham Lane while Trail B is from S. Trade Street to Squirrel Lake Park. Parking for accessing the greenway is at the Matthews Community Center behind Matthews Elementary School. Neighborhoods along the greenway can access it at Brenham Lane, Woody Creek Road, Privette Street, Rockwell View Drive and East John Street.
The Matthews Four Mile Creek Greenway is open from dawn to dusk.
