What do you do with a glass door? As a home stager and redesigner on Long Island New York, I've come across glass doors. Often the homeowners use either curtains or shades. But there are other alternatives that work just as well and look much better. You can apply window film. It is sold at Home Depot and on the internet. Here are just some of the examples:
The other option that I would like to share with you is etching. Etching is a great way to transform a glass door or window. It's not that hard and if you're handy, it's a great project to do. Etching was developed in the mid-1800's . It become very popular with Victorians and Edwardian homes. It lets light in while affording you privacy. Here are the steps needed to achieve that etch look with out the custom price.
- Glass cleaner. Clean your glass from dust and fingerprint.
- Lint-free cloth. Mop up the cleaner with microfiber. It will eliminate any residue.
- Stencil. You can create your own, or buy it from the internet.
- Flat edge. Use a flat edge to eliminate air bubbles.
- Masking film. Cover exposed area with adhesives-backed contact paper.
- Rubber gloves. The cream can irritate your skin.
- Etching cream. Carefully spread cream over open area, moving away from the edges to keep from bleeding under.
- Sponge. Use the sponge to rinse the cream off the glass.
- Ph strip. If you're environmentally friendly use ph strip to test the water before discarding it, using baking soda to neutralize water.
