Yes, there are lots...not lots of homes but LOTS to build on in Carlsbad.

It seems that most buyers in my area tend to prefer to buy a home that is a resale, or one that is brand new in a subdivision (either in process or to be built), rather than buying land and building a home. But for those who wish to create their own masterpiece on a great lot in Carlsbad, there are lots for sale.

Currently as of the beginning of October 2007, we have 30 lots for sale in Carlsbad. These building lots range from about 5500 SF (about .13 acres) up to about 5 acres (the average size is .87 acres). Prices range from $400,000 up to $3.5 million (about $35 per SF or $1.540 million per acre).

The hilly .57 acre lot shown in the photos is in the hills above the La Costa Resort and Spa in the La Costa area of Carlsbad, with great distant ocean and lagoon views...yours for a mere $1.5 - $1.8 million.

Buyers should, of course, do their due diligence to make sure the lots are buildable in terms of the desired plans. Certain areas have zoning restrictions (commercial vs. residential) and may limit the type of home (detached vs. attached), height or other factors that may be important.

Lots of lots...hmmm.  Sounds like opportunity knocking for some smart investors.

Jeff, I am one of those people that would rather buy something already built.  I don't think I would have the patience to deal with sub-contractors, and cost over runs, as well as getting them back to finish things that they messed up on, but were not noticeable until you move into the house.

God bless those that can put up with all that.

George - I tend to agree with you. I have often thought about what fun to be able to build what I want,  but after some of the stories I have heard, I'm not sure I have the patience either. But it IS the way to get a custom home in our area, otherwise you are stuck with someone else's creation.
