Want A Home Where the Buffalo Roam? No problem! We have 'em!

In Douglas County, just 21 miles south of downtown Denver , we have homes were buffalo roam, right in the back yard!

The custom home neighborhood of Buffalo Ridge backs up to Daniels Park, home to a buffalo herd. Daniels Park offers panoramic views of the entire Front Range, from Pikes Peak to the South and Mt. Evans to the north. Originally the Park was a working ranch. Today the Park has several 20th century rural architecture buildings, including a picnic shelter designed in the early 1920's by Denver architect Jules J.B. Benedict. Daniels Park is designated as a National Historic Place and registered in the National Register.

The custom built homes of the Buffalo Ridge were built to host the Parade of homes. Today the area is almost totally developed. Home buyers who love this area can find a few builder spec homes and occasionally a resale. Prices start in the mid $900,000's.

The semi-custom built neighborhood of Daniel's Gate and Castle Pines North features homes starting in the high View of downtown Denver from 21 miles away $300's on up to multi-million dollars. The area has easy access to Highlands Ranch to the north and I-25 to the east.

The vantage points from this neighborhood are spectacular and ever changing. The Buffalo actually roam about the 1000-acre natural high-plains habitat. They move from area to area, so one never knows exactly where they will be. Finding them is always a car-stopper, camera grabbing experience. The beautiful beasts don't seem to mind being the object of appreciation and curiosity.

Next door to Daniels Park is the Sanctuary , a breathtaking golf course owned by Dave & Gail Liniger of RE/MAX International fame. The Sanctuary is ranked among America's top golf courses. The views looking down onto the course are fabulous. The golf course is a true sanctuary for golfers, wildlife, flora and fauna.

A view of the Sanctuary Golf Course in Douglas County Colorado Shopping and everyday conveniences, including a Starbucks is within a 6 minute drive to the Villages of Castle Pines North. For a total of 15 minutes one can be doing more serious shopping at Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree or go south to Castle Rock and the Factory Stores, King Soopers or Walmart. The conveniences are close, but this distinctive neighborhood is miles ahead of average. For more information visit Douglas County .

To reach Daniels Park from Denver, travel south on I-25 to exit 188 (Castle Pines Parkway), and go west to Daniels Park Road. Turn right (north) and travel 2 miles through the park. One may also go south on Santa Fe Drive through Sedalia and turn left onto Daniels Park Road.

For anyone who enjoys Kristals blogs as much as I do, I thought I'd pass on how accurately I think Kristal portrays the areas she blogs about. I first moved to Denver in 1981 and have watched it grow quickly. The Daniels Park area is still as beautiful as ever even with the rapid growth. Going to this area is still like escaping the city even if you are only 15 minutes away.

BUFFALO?? Right in their yards??? WOW!! I'm thinking this is really the wild, wild west!! I get deer and fox in my backyard......no buffalo. I think I saw a skunk out there once.

Ann ~ Yes, Buffalo! We have coyotes and mountain lions too. We can hear the coyotes on the golf course at night... We have skunks too, those I bet we can all do without! Thanks for your comments.

Your photos are always to incredible! How do you get the shadow on the pictures? Do you do them on another program and upload them like that?

Ines ~ I use Adobe Photoshop Elements. The "shadow" is actually a frame called "drop shadow". It does dress up the photos nicely. thanks for noticing.

Broncos are ahead 10-7 thanks to a bonehead play. Hubby said we didn't need a new quarter back for that play the old one could do that very well...

Kristal, There were lots of bonehead plays on both sides last night. I can only chalk our win up to luck and mathematical odds. We haven't won in Denver since 1995. It WAS our turn.

Kristal, When I was a little girl driving up I-70 (I think) going up to our cabin, I remember there was a place where the buffalo roamed. I think it was after the Cabrini Shrine exit where there was a wide spance and you could see all the mountain ranges, it was quite beautiful. In fact, as I grew up and could drive, I remember thinking that I could very easily get caught up just admiring the view and forget driving...sorry, I rambled.

You pointed out that the owner of Remax owns the golf range, I didn't know that either. I knew they started Remax in Denver...do they live around there?

Just a weird question but is there any smell that these folks with their $900,000 homes are experiencing with the buffalo?

Buffalo, I would be afraid to go out. I moved out of the city 10 years ago, where we had squirrels, and one of my neighbors had pigeons. Once we went to one of those big parks in New Jersey with my daughter and her friends, we drove through a wild kingdom and the monkeys wouldn't get off the car. We were crying and they were laughing at us, the people that worked there had to get the monkeys off, I think I hit 100mph hitailing it.

Now that I am a suburbian girl, I run away from the groundhogs. It looks be beautiful but I would definitely need one of the houses with the built in garage for a clean getaway.

Gene ~ You are remembering yet another Denver Park where the buffalo still roam at the Mother Cabrini Shrine area. They are probably the cousins of the ones in my photos. Smell? Colorado buffalo don't smell. Thanks for the congrats. This is my first win, I've never entered before.

Joanne ~ LOL you went to Great Adventure in Jackson, N.J! I've been there. I remember the baboons ripping the soft top off of some guys car. Very funny! The Baboons were having a good time. I would imagine being in the car would have been scary! The buffalos won't hurt you if you stay on your own side of the fence. They have their own "yard."
