Larry Corbi made me aware of the 12th Annual Chumash Inter-Tribal Pow Wow at the Live Oak Campground in Santa Ynez. He also provided me with a flyer.  I noticed that Robert "Bobby" Corbi teamed up with Darlene Athie on the artwork for the flyer.  I happen to know Bobby as well and was unaware of his artistic talent on print.

The Chumash Inter-Tribal Pow Wow is open to the public for two days starting Saturday October 6th through Sunday October 7th .  The admission is free and there will be a dance contest, a drum contest, and plenty of arts and crafts. 1st place for the drum contest is $4,000 just to give you an example of the prizes you can win!.  I encourage everyone to attend this cultural event. Bring your family and your lawn chairs and learn about the local tribe and their culture in Santa Ynez.   I understand it is a lot of fun and worth attending.

Santa Ynez is about a 2 hour drive from Santa Clarita you can take the 126 to the 101 which runs along the Pacific ocean and cut through Santa Barbara on Highway 154. The drive alone is worth the trip along the (101).  Live Oak Campground is just past Rancho San Marcos Golf Course if your coming up from the Santa Barbara side.    You can later visit Buelton and have some "Pea Soup" or Solvang and experience the Danish Community.  There is plenty to do in this part of the Santa Ynez.

For more information on the Pow Wow contact Clare Lopez at 805.688.7997 Ext 19

Thanks Larry for making me aware of the event!  If you have a local event or community news let me know about it and we will feature it on our next blog.

Looks like a wonderful event. I wish I could attent! My father's family is from Santa Ynes (Grandpa owned the Danish Inn - the one with the windmill-for years and years) I hope the weather is beautiful - I can imagine the drumming now...

Hi Chrissy,

Your Grandfather owned the Danish Inn, what a small world!! I assume you've been to Santa Ynez then?  My Wife's best friend recently moved to Colorado and loves it there!.  Thanks for your thoughts Chrissy
