I tend to work seven days a week in my profession as a Realtor.  Partly because it seems to be one of the demands of this particular industry, but also because I really enjoy this career I have been blessed with. Coming to the office allows me to focus my thoughts, organize for the upcoming days events and just take an overall look at the direction I want for the new week.

However...sometimes I forget to stop and just take care of myself.  While trying to balance a busy schedule, attempting to get back into a routine at the gym and making the contacts neccessary to conduct business it seems that I sometimes forget to take the time to just stay healthy.  Last week I got hit with a cold.  The cold morphed into bronchitis and culminated with a 102 fever.  Why, I ask myself, do I need to go to this extreme to remember to slow down just a bit and enjoy my health and the life that I am so fortunate to have?

It is a beautiful sunny spring day this morning, and while I am busy at work, it is my intention to allow for breaks and some fun time.  I have a lunch date with one of my favorite lenders, Julie Ogle and this too will be a bit of a break from the ordinary.

Moral of my story?  I guess it is that no one else will make me take care of myself, so I better get with the job myself.

Have a great day!

Colin, I preach "me time"

it is so easy to get burned out in our business, often working with out any tangible results.  We all need a hobby of some sort to maintain sanity, and it needs to be scheduled on our calendars and treated like an appointment. For me #1 is sailing, I race sailboats and NEVER think about work when I am on the race course. I also love wood working, creating something, challenging myself to try something new...

The recipe: Competition, Physical, Mental, and visible results... (or a combo of a few of them) seem to work well to keep us from buring out.

As an independent contractor it is easy for me to get caught up in working seven days a week.  No matter how hard and fast I work, the list of "things to do" never seems to get shorter.  However, without balance in our lives our health and work tends to suffer.  On our deathbed we won't wish that we spent more time at the office.  Say "hi" to Julie for me.

Thanks Robert and Rick,

Great advice from you both.  I like the idea of scheduling the "me time" in my outlook calendar, and will get started with that today!
