Youtube's NEW Online Video Editing Tools and Features

I've been waiting since the launch of Youtube for them to do this.  Now that it's finally in place, I can only imagine that it's just going to get better and become an even more powerful module for Youtube video users.  The new Video editing features are awesome.  Let me show you some things you can do with that raw video from your mobile device, your flip or Kodak video camera, or even that HD $2000 video camera you just got for your birthday.

In order to use this new Youtube feature, you will have to have a Youtube account which you can get here

Next you'll need to be logged in to Youtube and then follow these 3 simple instructions:

1. Click on your account name in the upper right corner which opens a pull-down box and select "Account"

2. Across the "Menu Options" bar, there's a NEW link called "Video Editor" click on it

3. Select any (previously uploaded) video you want to edit, and let the fun and simple editing begin:
(simply drag and drop the video of choice into the empty box below to begin your video editing)

Some of the features in the new editor include:

  • Color, brightness and contrast correction and adjustments
  • Video stabilization which works great and is helpful for those "bumpy" recordings
  • A variety of music and audio files available including instrumentals and background tracks
(note: an ad may show up in video if you use one of the free tracks provided in the editor)
  • There are some cool transitions and effects that can be added to smooth out your video
  • An easy to use cropping/trimming tool lets you get rid of the unwanted portions of video

It may be a little easier to demonstrate all this using a video.  I'll show you some of the features and how it works.  I think you're going to like the Youtube video editor, it's easy to use all the features, it could help increase the quality and enhance your videos, and since it's all online and a simple editor, there's no learning curve or any real challenges incorporating some of the tricks I'm about to show you.  Enjoy!

Brad,

Have you noticed when using stabilizer that image size increases and it degrades vid quaility?

Rich - no real issue unless you use maximum stabilization, but that would only be something you'd apply to a video while on a roller coaster ride. lol~  Honestly, I don't see enough of a decrease in quality unless you do use the max stabilization, unfortunately that's how stabilization works.  It's not that bad for an online freebie.  :-)

Hi Brad--I guess I no longer have an excuse for not including video in my posts--now I just need to carve out time...

Gerard - Microsofts movie maker comes on the PC, it's not an online editing product, that's the difference.

Lee and Pamela - hope the members of the VBlogger group will find this useful. Thanks.

Craig - If I didn't post this, I know you would have...  You are the tech guru my friend. :-)  No option to upload personal mp3 files just yet, but you know round two will come soon with many more features based om users responses and feedback.

Pamelyn - GREAT comment and point. It's a topic that deserves its own blog post.  Have no fear of the camera is easy to say, but the reality is that most people lock up, get tongue tied, and get very nervous in front of a camera.  I have many suggestions and ideas on how to get around this, but the comment box here won't be the place. I'll put together a post but in the meantime, here's a funny little video I put together around that very topic. It's kinda cute, kinda dumb, but you'll see where I was going with it after you watch it.  Thank for the great idea for one of my next posts.

Linda - haha~  keep it in context ok?  lol~

Bob - I'm sure the future updates and improvements will include many new features including the ability to add your own audio files. This is jst round one, phase one.  They probably have to test the stability factor with the millions using the new features. More coming, I promise...

Andrew - all I can do is try to inspire and motivate people to jump in the water, then be there to help them so they don't drown.  Video is not the future, nor the present... it is the past but only getting easier and better.  It's the people who have not accepted nor grown to the fast paced change which makes it all the more why Agents, Brokers, Lenders etc. need to JUMP on this stuff now.  Great comment and realistic observation my friend. Thanks.

Tammy - Glad you got your camera!!

John - yes, multiple clips.  Just keep dragging the videos into the time-line bar but be careful not to make your final video too long, studies show that videos between 30-90 seconds get watched the most and they watch the entire thing if it's good content. Key is...if it's good content. Example - how many do you think watched the entire video I created in the post above?  It's over 90 seconds so most likely, nobody watched the whole thing, they probably ran over to their Youtube channels to check it out. None-the-less, I wanted to show some of the key features which to me made the content worth posting.

Sally - I'll be posting about some of those other tools in my next series, I have some tips and tricks that might help you using some of those other apps and features.

Lorraine or Loretta - I think music makes all the difference in the world on longer videos. Imagine some of the greatest movies ever made that didn't have the music to set the scene and more importantly, the mood.  It's the balance of volume and selection of audio that is the key in my honest opinion.

Steve - you said, "You don't need more free tools, free accounts, free training, cheaper equipment."  I disagree, but I probably live in a different real estate market and economy than you do.  lol~

Russell - thanks, that particular video got him into a "signed" band that will be touring this Summer. WOOHOO!  :-)

Thanks to everyone else for your wonderful comments, I'd comment back to each of you but my kids are telling me that the Easter Bunny just came... gotta run.  HAPPY EASTER ALL~

I used a program called Screenflow for video, it has some features that let you create some really useful effects and makes video editing much easier for these types of tutorials.  I'd be happy to show you how it works if you need assistance.
