Having spent several years in the military, we moved quite a lot.  When we bought in my home town, we did well, because we knew the area.  When we moved out of state the first time, we didn't do so well, for we mistakenly compared the prices of houses in the new town and state with those of the place we had left.  We thought everything was a bargain and wanted to buy up all the homes!  Fortunately, we could only afford one.  The shocker came when we finished that tour of duty and moved to the next assignment.  When we put our bargain house on the market, we found we had paid too much....  We actually had to add money to the house to unload it.  My suggestion and what we have done since that mistake of 20 plus years ago, is to rent for while when you move to a new place.  Get a feel for where you really want to be, the market, etc.  You can come out much better off than to jump on the first 'deal' that comes along....

I agree Robert, renting is a favorable option unless you have family or close friends that you trust to help you make inteligent and informed discisions when purchasing real estate!
