Benefits Opened to More Veterans with Changes to EligibilityVeterans Salute

Texas is home now to more than 1.7 million veterans.  This new change simple states that “regardless of whether veterans entered the service from Texas or just got here as quickly as they could, they can quality for benefits from the Veterans Land Board(VLB)”.  That’s because Jerry Patterson, chairman of the VLB, dropped the one-year residency requirement last year after seeing that too many deserving veterans were having to wait to use the benefits they earned. “Under the old rules, even Davy Crockett would not have qualified for VLB benefits had he survived the Battle at the Alamo”, said Patterson.

Texas is one of only five states to offer special veterans benefits, and our VLB benefits are the BEST in the nation.  Texas is the only state to offer a comprehensive package of land, home and home improvement loans, state veterans homes and state veteran cemeteries.

Texas Veterans Banner

The VLB offers a wide range of veterans benefits which include low-interest rates, long-term loans for land, homes and home improvements.

*  $80,000 land loans, 30-year, fixed-rate, minimum one acre
*  Up to $325,000 for purchase of a primary residence, 15 or 30-year fixed rate terms
*  Up to $25,000 for 20-year term for home improvements, no down payment

There are also affordable, long-term nursing care facilities exclusively for Texas veterans, their spouses and Gold Star Parents at Texas State Veterans Homes which are presently located in Amarillo, Big Spring, Bonham, El Paso, Floresville, McAllen, Temple, and coming to Tyler in 2011.

For more information of all these veterans programs and benefits, please visit the VLB website at Texas State Veterans.  Then contact your local REALTOR of Choice in the San Antonio Market area.  I will be glad to assist you with gaining any of these benefits for our deserving veterans.  Plan to attend the next Benefits Fair Near You! San Antonio will host this event on August 20, 2011 at the Live Oak Civic Center.

Jerry, I really love how you are such an advocate for your fellow Veterans. As far as I'm concerned, we can't do enough to thank the brave men and women who have served our country.

Jerry-Nice summary. There are lots of benefits available, but sometimes the bureaucracy makes it tough to know how to use the programs. Thanks.

Hi Wayne, Yes, we know that the bureaucracy may make it difficult, but it's still worth the efforts to apply for your veterans benefits. Texas does have some neat programs for vets.

Hi Belinda,,,We do have a lot of veterans here mainly because of the cost of living, and all our military bases. San Antonio alone has 4 military bases, and Fort Sam Houston is now Base San Antonio, which supports all branches of the service for medical training.
