Herman & Kittle properties, an Indiana-based company, recently applied for an affordable housing tax credit from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs to build an affordable housing complex in Taylor for seniors.
The building will be called Main Street Commons and will have 75 units. The building will include an outdoor entertainment and patio area, fitness area, library, covered parking, and a media/theater center. This development will be Taylor's second development for those age 55 and older in the city. However, this will be the first project by Herman & Kittle in Taylor and in Texas. They chose to place an affordable housing development in Taylor due to the demand for this type of housing in the area. Construction of Main Street Commons could begin in early 2012 with units available to rent in 2013, if the project receives the tax credits.
To qualify to live in the 80,000 square foot, four-story building, you must be 55 years or older and have an income level between $15,000 to $35,000 per year.
