Something that makes me smile. The big and little things of nature

This big fellow(red bellied woodpecker) has discovered the food supply in the back yard and has been a regular visitor. That is something even on a stressful day that will bring a smile to my face.

red bellied woodpecker

While all the birds in the backyard make me smile and bring immense joy this little guy(ruby-throated humminbird) is a much anticipated one and Sunday a male and female both made their first appearance of the season. I quickly put sugar water out for them and also a basket of red flowers. While I was out working in the yard they came buzzing around my head as if to say get out of my way I am hungry

Sharon:  The hummingbirds are delightful to watch now in Austin Tx.  They come frequently to my patio to drink and then flitter off to sit on a tree branch.  I love nature!  Your woodpecker makes me jealous as we don't have one to watch.

That splash of red makes him so pretty, the handy work of a designer for us to admire.  It is things like these we ought to thank the Creator for because it is a touching reminder of God's love for us. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Sharon, you are coming up with some stunning bird pictures there. I love that woodpecker one. Hummingbirds also can be so rare to capture shots of as they are so fast.

Sonja-It is hard to keep them filled.

Rebecca-It is so much fun.

Mary-Thank you and sometimes I swear they will run right into me.

Gwynn-I love to see them sitting close by resting after a drink of sugar water. Have you tried suet or bird bells for the woodpecker? It is fun to watch both that one and the downy woodpecker

Dee-I couldn't have said it better myself.

Mimi-Thank you that was really cool. I never saw that kind of bird before. What a ritual.

Thank you Gary-I love the big guy too. He is so fun to watch. Hummingbirds are fun and they are fast but if you can catch them when they are sitting you can get a great shot.
