I fired a client over $15.00

I fired a client over $15.00. This is true. I had gotten a call one day last month with a sad story about needing an inspection completed. They really needed this one done. I told them I could possibly get it done for them but I wanted a "little" more. With the price of gas and my time going up, I needed a little more for my efforts. I was feeling pretty good that I had gotten a better price for the inspection "albeit only $15.00" but better than nothing.

I did the inspection and then it was kicked back saying that I needed a lot more information. After spending about two hours on their web site and then sending it in for the second time. It was accepted.

Then Today I received the check. You got it. It was for the original amount they had first called offering.

I e-mailed, then called them and they said they "don't recall" offering me more. I told them "you didn't, I wanted more. And your company approved it. They told me "it's the national average", and it's all I would get.

So I told them I was firing them as a client for breach of a verbal contract. Then I told them to send an inspector from California for what they are paying me.

I won't be doing any more inspections for this company. They were fired.

Too bad - it sounds like gas prices are only going to get higher for the summer. I wish I could charge for my gas and time.

Hi Kevin, I did get an e-mail agreeing to the price, but if they will not send you the "full amount, the $15.00 is not worth the effort to collect.

Hey Laurie, with all the driving I need to do I have to charge a little more to help "offset" the travel expense. Too bad you can't charge a "service fee". It might tick off some client's.

Sounds like you make a wise business decision. One should not be treated that way.

I guess that would be one of the challenges of working with a corporation instead of an individual person. I'm sorry this happened to you. I think you did exactly right with the Donald Trump move. :)

Hey Jim, I like the "donald Trump" phrase. I really am at the mercy of who I work for if I get what is promised or not. I do inspections for 12 different companies as well as for my self. I don't have this type of problem very often, but it doe's occur form time to time. Take it on the chin, and cut your loses.

Hi Rob, I did get an E-mail stateing that it was a "my bad" in the incorrect amount. I tole them in a reply I will do inspections for them if they send me a check in full in advance.
