HAIKU MAUI HAWAII - 96708
The Pauwela Cannery in Haiku is located on West Kuiaha Road, about a mile up from the Hana Highway. It used to be an old pineapple cannery back in the day, when the railroad came up from Kahului. Nowadays the cannery is populated with many smaller shops of the light industrial type. There are surfboard nanufacturers, and new wave artists. Last time I looked, there was: Ace Hardware; Fabricated Marble of Hawaii; Creative Cabinets; DaKine Hawaii; Hawaiian Fish Prints; Timpone Hawaii; Vanover Cabinets; and the Pauwela Cafe, among many other busy shops. There's plenty of parking if you're in the neighborhood, so stay for a while. If Hawaiiana is your thing, I know a really special old noodle shop that would be perfect for the right buyer.
The Haiku Cannery is not far away, you can drive on the old country road or take the Hana Highway back towards Kahului. At this other old pineapple cannery turned town center, you will find many more conveniences such as: Haiku Grocery; Haiku Gym; Haiku Clinic; Laundromat; Car Quest; Colleen's Pizza; Hana Hou Restaurant; Fukushima's; Post Office; and Haiku Deli. Located at the corner of Haiku Road and Kokomo Road, this is the hub of Haiku, with quick access to Makawao, Paia and Huelo. There's plenty going on in this historic plantation town and historic area. If you're wondering where to eat, check out the restaurant listings at : Eastmaui.com
