The long winter of Midwest and Central North Dakota, has become a huge issue with spring thawing as rising water levels are getting very close to new record highs. This has made "Ace Is The Place" (Ace Hardware) and other hardware stores very busy in the Minot and surrounding areas. Ace Hardware located at 1600 2nd Ave SW in Minot, ND has great customer service and sells lots of items for quick fix projects.

People have been recently calling and asking the local news station "KMOT TV" questions about Sump pumps and other accessories to withdraw and direct water away from homes. KMOT TV decided to visit the local Ace Hardware store and do a live interview to answer any questions for the people of Minot and surrounding areas. After that news got around people knew they could rely on Ace Hardware for their flooding water needs. Ace can also custom order just about any hardware product the average consumer may need.

I might be showing my age, but I miss the old hardware store.  All the guys at the local hardware store when I was growing knew us and knew a lot about everything!

I was so sad to see my neighborhood hardware store close its doors.  Now Home Depot is the only choice and it is sooo big I avoid going there until it is absolutely necessary.  I always wear my running shoes as you can easily walk a mile trying to find the items you need!

Laura, what I miss is that if you were looking for something the help there knew what it was even if we didn't know what to call it. At our local Ace it's still like that and you can even bring your lawn mower in to be repaired.

Barbara, it seems like when I have to go to the big box store it's always Saturday afternoon and at that time you wish they had shuttle buses from where you have to park to the door.

Norma, running shoes are a good idea. I'm always envious of those kids that have the built-in roller blades in their shoes.

Tim - From the national news, I can tell those dwelling in your part of the country are having some challenges keeping water where it should be.  A sump pump can make all the difference in the world.  I recall one especally rainy season here in Sacramento.  I had friends living in the older part of the city that has homes with basements.  Their basement looked like a swimming pool.  It was the first time I was given an opportunity to see the miracle a sump pump could provide.

Myrl, there obviously has been a change in our weather pattern around here. About 100 miles to the East is a lake called Devils Lake. In the last 10 years it has swelled to about 20 times it's size and swallowed several communities and 1,000's of acres of farm land. About 4 years ago Lake Sakakawea was at an all time low and last year it swelled to a near high. At least Sakakawea has a dam but last year all the reservoirs down stream were so full they could not release all they needed to release.

HI BOB!  Sump pump....what's sump??!!  People tend to shy away from ACE because their prices are higher than the big box - but I tend like paying a little extra to get more personal service!

We have one "Ace Hardware" store left in my area. And lucky for me, well, lucky for my husband it is located just 2 miles from my house! It is a great hardware store and I truly hope it never closes!

Gabrielle, I'm with you, I don't mind paying a little more when I know that I can have someone there to help and that someone "has a clue" as to what hardware is and how it should be used. I also love that this store does small engine repair.

Terrie I hope it doesn't close either just in case I decide to move your neighborhood (could happen, I hope to thaw out from the cold someday). I think all the Ace Stores are local owned and that alone is another good reason to hope for their survival.

Bob, I love little local stores where you can find answers to all problems you may have. We have some mom-and-pop hardware stores around Arlington and even my kids love to browse there - they always find something they want. Sounds like Ace Hardware is a great place to visit regularly.

Hi Liz, It is a great place to visit as everyone knows me yet no one throws anything at me there. I'm fortunate that it is only a couple of blocks from my office.
