Will you be in downtown Denver this weekend? Its no longer October - Its Rocktober!
This week-end in Denver was already slated to be extremely busy, and now that the Colorado Rockies are in the play-offs (GO ROCKIES!)there are even more activities to pick from in downtown Denver Saturday and Sunday. Here are just a few that you can pick from. One tip though, if you will be going downtown from any of the suburbs this week-end, I have to think that public transportation such as light rail or the RTD bus service would be a very good idea. I have to imagine parking in Denver is going to be a fortune on Sunday, if you can even find any. Light Rail will be running continuously to downtown Denver from almost all stations throughout the day Sunday, even the ones that generally have no Sunday service.
Oktoberfest - The very popular event previously held in Larimer Square is moving this year - wouldn't you know it, to the ballpark neighborhood in LoDo, between 20th and 22nd Streets on Larimer. The move to LoDo was planned before the Rockies made the play-offs but it is definitely adding to the excitement. The fun filled festival begins Friday at 5pm - 1am and continues Saturday 11 am - 1pm and Sunday 12pm - 8pm. It is sure to be more popular than ever this year with all of the other events drawing people to downtown this weekend. In fact, it has now been re-named -Rocktoberfest on the website, check it out.
Colorado Rockies - Rockies Fever is on, and after winning game 1 yesterday, its getting hotter. Rockies are schedule to play Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday night at 8pm, if necessary. Go Rockies!
Denver Broncos - The Denver Broncos have had a shaky start but with all of the other excitement in Denver this weekend, it can only help them WIN! Right? Kick-off is Sunday at 2:15 against the Chargers.
Colorado Avalanche- Did you see Paul Statsny's hat trick last night? The Av's have started very well, and they will be playing at Pepsi Center Sunday at 5pm. Note that this time is a changed that was just recently announced to accommodate this very busy sports day in Denver. Click here to read more about the time change.
Komen Denver Race For the Cure- I believe street closures will begin Saturday evening, so that may make things tricky right off the bat for some of the folks downtown on Saturday for other events, but this extremely popular event was the largest in the Nation last year. You can still register for the Komen Denver Race for the Cureon Race Day. And a shout out to my wife, she is team captain this year for her group of mom friends who have been participating in this together for 8 or 9 years now. The Women's 5K begins at 7am, followed by the Co-Ed Race and the shorter 1 mile Family Walk. Pepsi Center will need to be cleared out quickly to get ready for the Avs after the Race is over.
Denver Center for the Performing Arts- The DCPA has some great performances this weekend as well, including the popular Spamalot. Their calendar can be viewed here.
Just outside the city limits there are many more events, such as the circus at the Denver Coliseum and numerous Fall Festivals. Whatever your interests, there is sure to be something!
Let's just hope the weather holds (its not looking so great right now - and I am hoping those weather folks are wrong this time around!) so that we can all enjoy these fabulous events this weekend in Denver. And if you are new to Denver or thinking of relocating, yes - this is an unusually busy week-end downtown. But on any given weekend there is always plenty to pick from in our Mile Hi City.
Here's a little downtown tour that includes some of the sports venues.
