Learning to Give God all that is His

Acts 5

Ananias and Sapphira

1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”

“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”

9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

Sometimes we think that if we made lots of money now that we then could afford to give to God later. Or once we can retire then we will have time to serve God. Would you give to God half of what you own if you had two thousand oil wells? Sure, you could probably live well enough on one thousand oil wells. What if you had two pigs, would you give God one? Well that's now fair, because I could not live with just one pig!

We don't suddenly, someday, have an abundance of time or money to give to God. We need to give Him 100% of our time, or devotion, and money. How can I afford to give God 100% of what I own? I thought we only was required to give God 10% as a tithe!

We so often try to hold back for ourselves, that which God has blessed us with. Our talents, our gifts, and our very lives. God, I'll give you this portion of my life, but I really can't afford to give you my whole being right now. I'm too busy, I haven't earned enough money, I have too much going on in my life right now to think about giving you more time. And so we "hold back" from give God all that His already His.

He paid 100% of the price for our lives on the cross. He did not hold back a portion of His love toward us. All that we have in this life is borrowed from Him. He has created all things, including our very selves. We have been created in His image. He has given us physical life and if we accept Him as Lord we have been given spiritual life.

As we grow in Christ we need to let go of everything that we are trying to hold onto. Money and Time! Both are a gift of God. We are not guaranteed either one of them for tomorrow! We are in training now, learning to give bit by bit, that we may manage money, time, relationships and temptations. Maybe someday we will find ourselves comptetent to manage life on a grander scale, as we realize that everything is a Gift From God, and he that is faithful in the small things will be given more. Are you waiting to acquire enough to satisfy yourself before you give to God? Think about what you have now that you can give to Him? Give Him your very life, for He has given His for you! Christ died for you that you may have eternal life!

Lord, all that I have I owe to you! All of my time, my money, my life I want to give back to you, that you may break it and bless it, in order to serve those who are in need today!

Giving back to GOD is a step that builds our faith ! We must give out of the little that we have if we're ever going to feed 5,000 with a few fish !!!!!!

Paul, it all already belongs to God. We need to give him 100% of ourselves and have our spiritual eyes open looking for opportunities to serve him.I am featuring this very fine post on spiritualrain and walking by faith groups.

Good word Paul! As the saying goes, you can't outgive God! Time and time again we give more than what others think is responsible and time and time again, we are Blessed beyond belief. Not always in a monetary way... for example... we gave one day when we really didn't know if we could afford it... some checks rolled in and covered it. The next day a friend we've been praying for totally submitted to God and that was worth 100 times what we gave... I'd gladly do that over and over again.

Hello Paul,

Your post is my message from God.  He has been telling me the very things your wrote today and I have only wanted to hear part of it.  I give of my time and my talent but not fully of my treasure and this is what has been lacking in my journey of faith.  Thanks for writing this just for ME.
