What Do You Think Of Tag Along With REALTOR Day?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Tag AlongIn many of our learning experiences as REALTORS so much of it is about classroom training or office partner meetings or learning from our affiliate partners. But what about selling and dealing hands on day to day with the public? As independent contractors much of that is on the job training by ourself.

What Do You Think Of Tag Along With REALTOR Day?

Once a month perhaps ONLY with out in the field.

Veterans could partner with newbies, veterans could partner with veterans. I would steer clear of newbies partnering with newbies. Some would say hey this is an income producing business and I can't sacrifice a day of my time to do this. But look at all the OTHER educational things you do. Office meetings, Association of REALTOR meetings. I think the TAG ALONG idea would be eye opening from all sides of techniques that work with clients for others that we are not thinking about. Critiquing each other even in a buddy system.

I know, maybe a radical idea for once a month, and Brokers and team leaders would say we only do that with newbies for the first two months of business, but FIELD training with clients is where the rubber meets the road. Listing appointment, showings, different types of properties. How do you know you don't like selling Farm and Ranch property until you get your boots on and walk in the muck in the horse stall? How do you know Commercial Real Estate is your forte' until you look at that spacious warehouse that will be converted to a gymnasium for a church?

We learn in MANY ways and immersion in the field WITH CLIENTS in real life situations WATCHING OTHERS I would think would be highly educational.

NOTHING teaches you faster than by DOING.

it is a great idea, and can help create more professional agents.  too many of these newbies never grow up because they never had anyone show them how its done

Brokers should automatically train newbies, maybe by setting up teams that make for a win-win for all. As an independent contractor, the "older" agent should be compensated for this just like in any other business.

Gary,

It depends!

I was/am a problem solver, my practice demanded a high degree of financial and social intimacy with the clients that was never shared with anyone. There is no way to include a ride along!

On the other hand when I had residential listings every week or two I'd take another REALTOR® to tour my listings with me. I loved to take newbies!

Newbies are great to tour with, because you get a point of view very close to the consumer's. Newbies ask sincere questions! I could take a Newbie to lunch for less than $10 total.

Peers and Mentors on the other hand are a different experience. First to get the most out of a REALTOR® take them to breakfast, $10 to $50 then, before they get to their office! (Once they get to their office you'll never get their full attention!) Show them the house, but don't expect them to say much until you're back in the car.

Mentors have taught me more than any group except my students! Nothing sharpens your skills better than teaching.

"What Do You Think Of Tag Along With REALTOR Day?"

It depends! Never when I'm consoling a client! Remember your fiduciary duty!

I routinely have newbies follow me on appointments. But never on the first time I meet someone. So I already know the clients and am comfortable that they will welcome the newbie and also that the activity is something the newbie can benefit from.

Gary, I'm all for it I believe it would be a good recruiting tool , we have to encourage new agents and show people seeking a new career this is something they may be good at.

I used to do this with newbies and partners and loved it. I would go on their appointments with them, and they would come on mine. It was a great learning experience and helped me develop my unique style.

As a matter of fact we still do this today.

I love teaching by doing. I would love a tag along day if I could tag along with my boyfriend who is a wonderful realtor so it would be amazing to watch him in action.

James: Would stop the fly by the seat of the pants.

Hella: I also wondered about compensating for the older agent but if it was minimal time I thought it could be pro bono.

Bill: The touring part I see as so helpful, and the other instances I see the need for confidentiality of client information.

Karen: I can see that first time you meet someone. More confidential there and you don't want to gang up on people.

Steve: A recruiting tool and also a training tool for new agents is a great angle on this.

Frank and Karen: I think we all need to try this in our own groups.

Mike: I think we need to be more open to this idea. It might take off.

Elisa: That sounds like a fun tagging activity with the boyfriend. Maybe you could teach him a thing or two from your own perspective what you see ha ha. Maybe you'll say he talks too much and never shuts up  : )

Gary-I couldn't DEFINITELY teach a thing or two from my perspective.  My guy does like to talk to me a lot, More than most men and I love that about him and when he is passionate about something or someone then he really gets wound up even more or maybe it is too many iced teas. LOL

Elisa: See, I guessed right with that guy of yours being a yacker. Watch it with the iced tea, that will really get him wound up with the caffeine. Who am I to talk, smile, I'm working on real estate late at a Starbucks with a coffee in front of me. Take care, and thanks for your thoughts and stopping by.

Hi Gary - I did let a gal go with me on showings who was just thinking about getting her license.  That day inspired her to start classes and she felt that she learned a lot on her day with me.
