More than 100 acts will showcase their talents at the 17th Music Week in Ventura beginning April 27, 2011 and continuing through May 1, 2011. Most of these performances will be provided at no cost or very low cost and will be open to all age groups. Some of the musical genres that will be featured include blues, R&B, country, jazz, metal, ska and latin. Several popular local bands will also perform, including the Bob Jones Trio, King Gypsy, 50 Sticks of Dynamite, 29 Mules, Urban Dread and the Shoemaker Brothers.
Atlantic Magazine recently noted that Ventura County has become a huge force for live music, coming in 4th for concentration of music industry businesses after Nashville, Los Angeles and New York City. In fact, on any given night in the downtown Ventura area, you can see a live musical act performing at more than a dozen Ventura musical venues. Some big name artists, such as Kenny Loggins, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Steve Lukather, Leann Rimes and even Kevin Costner have performed for free to the public in the past. Not bad, right?
Enjoy food, fun and music at the Local Rock Picnic on Saturday, April 30th at Plaza Park (Chestnut & Santa Clara) in downtown Ventura. Beginning at 11am, music lovers of all ages are welcome to come to the park to listen to great music, eat some good food and visit promo booths and vendors. The kids can kick off their shoes to play in the jumpy house. It's sure to be a great time for everyone.
Music Week in Ventura will end with a Totally Local VC music jam on Sunday, May 1st starting at 3pm. Local musicians from all genres will be on hand to perform.
