Matthews NC Farmers Market Celebrates Twenty Years of Offering Local Produce
Is your mouth watering for a home grown tomato? Think you’ll have to wait until June or July for a good tomato? Not true. You can find local tomatoes at the Matthews Farmers Market this month. They are greenhouse grown by a local farmer in Marshville and they debuted at the market last Saturday.
The Matthews Farmers Market is now open for the 2011 summer season. It was established in 1991 to offer food from farmers and other vendors within a 50 mile radius of Matthews NC. It has become such a popular Saturday morning destination that the market is now open every Saturday during the summer season and every other week during the winter.
There’s more to enjoy at the Matthews Farmers Market than the fresh produce. Chefs from local restaurants offer cooking demonstrations each Saturday. You’ll also enjoy local musicians and special events. In April, customers can participate in a cookbook swap all morning long. Other upcoming events include basket making for kids, bring a friend to the market day, plant and garden day, strawberry day, and herb day.
Here are some tips for enjoying the Matthews Farmers Market.
- The market bell rings at 7:15am and vendors cannot sell before the bell rings.
- The busiest time is between 8am and 10am.
- Carry small change so the vendors can make change easily.
- Dogs are not allowed at the market.
