~ Pay It Forward - At the Post Office ~

pay it forwardI wrote an offer for a HUD home that was accepted.  HomeTelos was the asset management and marketing company.  They require that the original full offer and earnest money be delivered to them within 48 hours after the agent is notified of the bid acceptance.  So off to the Post Office I went.

When I arrived, there was quite a long line with only 2 of the stations open (as usual).  I got in line behind an older couple (my guess was they were in their late 60's, early 70's).  There were about 12 people in front of the couple.  The older gentleman was using a cane and went to a nearby bench to sit down while the lady stayed in line.  I tapped the lady on her shoulder and told her that if she would like to join her husband sitting on the bench, I would hold her place in line in front of me so she could wouldn't have to stand in the long line.  She smiled, thanked me and joined her husband. 

When there was only one person left in front of me, the elderly couple both got up to retake their place in line.  We chatted a bit.  I found out that he was waiting to have surgery on his knee and he was not in his 60's or even in his 70's.  He was 91 years old!  I was so surprised.  There was no way he looked that old!  And then I found out the gentleman behind me was 87!  Had I of known he was behind me, I would have saved his place in line too, but I never turned around to see who was behind me.  I told him to go ahead of me as well, and jokingly said, "Age before beauty"  and a big smile came over his face.
