It was a snow day in old Searcy Arkansas. Stott's Drug Store. Citizen Publishing.

It may not have been the same day..

But then...it could have been the same day..

SNOW excites people in the town of Searcy Arkansas.  It did then and it does now.

These two pictures seem to go together.  I feel as if someone was running around town taking pictures of the snow.  They gathered lots of folks in front of Stott's Drug Store.

Stotts Drug Store

In fact, they may have gathered up everyone at this store and left the Citizen Publishing Office, just down the street, empty.  Note Sowell's Furniture.  You Searcy Sleuths will have to name the other stores from memory.  Do you also know the people in the pictures?

Citizen Publishing Co

While mentioning Stott's Drug Store we need to pause for just a minute in memory of Roger Gene Williams, long time proprietor of Stott's Drug Store, who passed away on April 17, 2011.  His obit is here.  Is he perhaps in this picture?

I think I can ID   Pete Steward (Reiser's son), Marlin Garrison.  I know I can ID  Dalton "Toby" Woodson, "Boney" Robbins, F.P.Girkin, Shorty ?, (the man in mother's pictures of the Security Bank,)...Can't ID any of the women.  But LOVE the pic, Barbara.

Next to the Citizen is Sowell's Furniture, and next to it, on the corner is Smith-Vaughn Mercantile.

Love the women's coats and scarves, two men smoking big "stogies" or however you spell those smelly old cigars.

Look at all those men's HAT!  I love it!  You see guys wearing baseball type caps but they just don't wear hats like they used to.  A hat is so dignified and maybe even a little mysterious.

A simple casual picture has so many details...like bicycling in the snow?

Love the pic...stay dry today.

The Citizen! Sadly if you were to go looking for that building today you would find nothing but an empty lot. Everyone who works here is mystified as to why we packed up and moved to this ridiculous location

Anita, I swear I can't remember where I got these great pictures unless your mother had them and let you let me borrow them a long time ago.  You probably need to tell us which one in the pictures go with the names you gave us.

Debbie, the picture is wonderful.  I tried to figure out the "almost goggles glasses on two of the men."

Mary, thanks for adding to our tribute to Roger Williams.  He really was a perfect gentleman in that drugstore.  He's probably the one who told them never to ask, "What the devil happened to you!!!" if you walked into the store with a perscription.  They were very discreet.

Steve, thanks!

Luke, I remember the move.  Seems as if there was a Volkswagen dealership where you are now and it folded and the property may have been cheap.  (At least I think that is what happened.  You're the newspaperman who should do the whole story!)  : )

Don, I've asked Sherry Q Person to verify if this is Ivan.  Could you possibly make little ids on the ones already identified?

All I know is the man in the long coat and fedora on the far left makes me wish I wasn't so sure smoking would kill me.

When Anita gives me her ID information, I will put on labels. I'll also remove the Ivan Quattlebaum label. To me that person sure  looks like a Quattlebaum.

Luke, what you are saying is that men look SO handsome in overcoats!  Why more Searcy men don't wear overcoats, including my Dude, is a mystery to me.  They need to wake up!!

Sherry, thanks for looking and answering.

Don, it was a good guess.  Even Jim Baugh Jones didn't know these people and I thought his dad would have been one of them.  The Searcy Sleuths are slipping in not being able to name these people!  BTW.....is our Sleuth Sullivan in town?

The person Don has I.D'ed as Ivan Q. is Dalton "Toby" Woodson.    It seems too complicated for me to say where the others are but I'll try:

I think Marlin Garrison is two down (to the right) of Toby.  F,P. Girkin is on the end....and Boney Robbins is next to him (on the left) in the long coat.

Shorty is in the middle of the women.  Now that you're enlarged the pic. Mrs. Elmo Taylor might be on the left of the women.

That's the best I can do.

Rest in Peace, Roger Williams.  He was always my family's pharmacist and always a very nice man.  He will be missed by a great many folks around here.

No, Barbara, I'm no longer in Searcy.  I was just there for the day.  Sorry I missed you.  I only had a few minutes,  Maybe we can make contact next spring in my annual trip to visit relatives and friends,

By the way, for your readers who might remember my brother, A.J. Sullivan, SHS Class of 1947, he and hus wife are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this weekend.

The lettering on the window of Stotts Drug Store looks to be the same lettering that is still there today. Is that even possible?

Anita and Don, thanks!  We do need to identify the others, don't we?  Where are our other sleuths?

Dana, you are right.  He was a gentleman.

Harold Gene, I'm sorry that I missed you.  I feel that I saw you, though, because Don sent me the picture of you, your wife, and the party!  Have a good trip.

Angela, I'll bet it is the same.  We need to ask when we go back in.
