Roadside Spam.... That is what I call it. Dozens of bandit signs aimed at foreclosures - Open House signs from long, long ago - For sale directionals pointing down a random road... Garage Sale Signs from a last Summer ...
It IS roadside spam and not only does it make our streets look cluttered, but how are we supposed to pick out the relevant signs among the hundreds of abandoned ones?
Although it is hard to put the hammer down on SOME of these signs, Colorado Springs initiated the Temporary Sign Ordinance in 2003, for real estate related signs. And folks, these rules are STILL in effect.
So, if you are a Colorado Springs Real Estate agent looking to drive traffic to your listing, please note the following rules:
- Open House and Directional Signs MAY ONLY be placed in public right of ways between Noon on Friday through Noon on Monday and must be 2 feet from the curb.
- If you are putting a directional on personal property, you MUST have permission from the owner.
- If you have permission from the owner to place a directional on their property, there are no time restrictions. You can leave it there as long as they will let you leave it there.
- Signs are NOT allowed on medians.
- Signs are NOT allowed downtown: Walnut east to Wahsatch & Rio Grande north to Willamette.
- If you do not obey these rules, your signs will be confiscated and destroyed without notice.
- For permits that will allow you to place signs outside of these rules, you can visit the City Zoning Office and purchase a $6.00 permit. (385-5905 or 30 S. Nevada Avenue, 3rd floor).
Hopefully the more people that follow the rules of this ordinance, the better our roads will look.
