Sarasota Short Sale Real Estate Agent - Is It Worth The Effort To Pursue A Short Sale?

A question I get asked quite often is, "Why bother? Why bother with a Short Sale when I can just do nothing - either way I'm out of the house, right?"

I have to admit that even after having spoken with countless area homeowners facing foreclosure I'm still mostly surprised when I get this question. To me, it seems obvious to want to avoid having a Foreclosure on your credit, and all of the negative consequences that such brings.  My answer is often to turn the question around on them and ask, "Is it worth having a Foreclosure on your record when a competent Short Sale professional will manage the process and charge your bank for the work? Why have a Foreclosure on your record if it's 100% avoidable and it costs you nothing to do so?"

In all fairness, many of these people have actually tried a Short Sale, but have made the mistake of hiring an inept agent with little actual experience closing Short Sales. One common "deception" if for an agent to spend a few hundred bucks for a weekend seminar that grants them a "CDPE" (Certified Distressed Property Expert) designation. While it looks good on paper, the problem with "buying" such certifications is that there are ZERO experience requirements -- there are literally thousands of agents who have paid a few hundred bucks for the right to call themselves an "expert", but who have very little practical knowledge of what they are doing.

It's no wonder that many who get caught up with that crowd fail to get a Short Sale Approval and resign themselves to a Foreclosure . . .

Although difficult for the inexperienced many (including both homeowners AND agents/brokers) the "few" Short Sale Professionals out there who actually know what they are doing are worth their weight in GOLD to the homeowners they save from Foreclosure.

So, "Is it worth the effort to pursue a Short Sale?" Absolutely! But ONLY if you have the right team of professionals on your side.
