Today I drove around Marstons Mills and Hyannis (Cape Cod, MA) doing my pre-Easter errands and I realized my left blinker didn't work. You know that fast-clicking sound you hear to let you know the blinker bulb has gone out? Well, this sound made me realize that I take many more left-hand turns than right-hand turns. The roads were crowded and I had to be more careful turning. The on-coming traffic wouldn't know that I was about to turn. I even went out of my way to change my route so that I was making a right-hand turn instead.
Small inconvenience, I know. But, it made me think of other devices that I use each day and take for granted until they don't work. Like my coffee machine and Keurig - I love my coffee. Or, my laptop and smartphone. You get the idea.
The other thing I take for granted until it's not working...my health. I have no health complaints right now. I can do any activity I want whenever I want. There are other things I can complain about - the weather, the terrible economy, the taxes I owe, etc. - but these things won't stop me from being who I am. I can still accomplish my goals and contribute to things I believe in because I have my health.
Take a moment to reflect on your good fortune, your good health and whatever else you have to be thankful for. Because when you think you've got it bad, take a look around you.
