Q:  Can I Do Real Estate Part-Time?

A:  Real Estate Is Like Hokey Pokey

Hokey Pokey

You put your right foot in,
You put your right foot out,
You put your right foot in
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey Pokey

And you turn yourself around,

That's what it's all about

You put . . . left foot in

You put . . . right hand in

You put . . . left hand in

You put . . . right shoulder in

You put . . . left shoulder in

You put . . . right hip in

You put . . . left hip in

You put your whole self in
You put your whole self out
You put your whole self in
You shake it all about
You do the Hokey Pokey
You turn yourself around
That's what it's all about

Yes, some agents will try Real Estate on part-time basis, but is that what the client wants? If you were the buyer or seller would you work with part-timer?

Have you tried to reach a part-time agent recently?  Can't take calls at work . . . out to lunch . . . and you left messages everywhere.  Where are they when you need them?Hokey Pokey

Real Estate is not a part-time business.  The client deserves 100% a.k.a. your whole self . . . My husband just picked up a new commercial client because the consumer could not reach the listing agent who was working his other job and not available to answer calls or make appointments during the day.Hokey Pokey

Jerry--that's it.  The part-timers come and they go.  In the process the consumer suffers and vilify the real estate business.

Jeanne--You hit the nail on the head.  No only does the consumer suffer, but the other agent does most of the work.  As we know the true professional does what needs to be done to complete the transaction.

If you are hanging on to the other job, other paycheck, other whatever and you only have your left foot in.....you are not going to be successful in real estate for you or your client.....I like your post.

I have actually know a couple of agents who were VERY successful part time.  I think it depends on what the "other" job it.  I once had an agent who also sold insurance (also commission and flexible hours) and he did fabulous at both.  But I think it's a rare person and stiuation to be able to pull it off.

I really enjoyed this post, Mary.  Very clever!

I only know one part-timer who is successful.  He works fulltime at the local hospital.

I think he's a work-a-holic.

Mary - very cute!! I couldn't help singing along as I read (I'm sure others have done the same..) Very true - it's 100% commitment if you want to provide the very best service to your clients!

Well done post. Some part timers are successful but is not a good bet for most. Those that want part time work find opportunities to hold open houses for busy listing agents.

 Blooming for home buyers!

Mary - this is very funny-I didn't realize you were so talented in animation. It's true too; how can anyone do this job part-time although right now I'm doing a deal with another agent who works a full-time job (not in real estate) and it's really difficult to reach her during the day when I need answers.

You are certainly likely to be successful if you devote your efforts wholeheartedly to your work and especially if you are available when needed.

Tammy--you are right.  There are a few exceptions and they make so many want to try it part-time, too, but they don't realize the commitment it takes.  Thanks for stopping by.

Chris--You are right.  The few successful part-timers are workaholics and don't have a life.

Hi Emily--I am glad you like the animation. I had fun creating it.  Thanks for the mention in your FB post recently.

So true, Roy.  Successful part-timers are the exception.  Thanks for the flower.

Toni--Guess animation might be one of my hidden talents.  We will see if I progress.  I just added a few photos to this post to emphasis the frustration we experience working with part-timers.

Colleen--You are so right.  Agents need to be reachable and flex their schedule to fit the client not the other way around.

Mary,  I've had some part time agents who were exceptional and some full time agents that were horrible. I have to say that a part time agent can be great at real estate, but it takes real dedication and some way to make certain that the clients get full service (I think that only about 1 in a hundred can do it).

Gary--I think your math is right on about 1 in a hundred.  Yes, it takes a lot of dedication and too many part-timers get discouraged long before they become successful.  Thanks for stopping here tonight.
