Dishwasher Malfunction

By
Real Estate Agent with Falcon Property Company

There’s not much that my husband can’t fix.  We owned quite a few Colorado College rentals, so when the dishwasher was misbehaving at one of them, it was not a problem for him to go and take care of it.   A few days later, he was called Colorado College Rentalsback for the same difficulty, so he tried a different repair since the first one had obviously not been successful.  After four such service calls, we decided that there was evidently something wrong with the dishwasher and replaced it with a new one.

Two days later we got the same call – water and suds pouring out of the dishwasher all over the kitchen floor.  It finally 'dawned' on me that our ‘best and brightest’ college students are not smart enough to know that Dawn dish detergent is not designed to be used in automatic dishwashers.  There is a uniqueness to the suds and the agitation inside the machine that allows water to pour out from places that you didn't know existed.  Do NOT try it at home.  It is NOT a pretty scene :)

Don't feel badly.  I had a University PROFESSOR leave liquid dishwashing soap with instructions to use it in his BOSCH dishwasher -

So funny!  The highest IQs do not necessarily come with any common sense!

So true Mimi....years ago I worked for a resort and every now and then a guest would flood a unit this very way! Amazing what a little bit of dishwashing liquid can do in the wrong place.

hahahahaha :)!  That is hysterical :)!  Well...a little expensive, but funny non-the-less.  Now they have a story to tell their own children someday :)!  Thanks for sharing.

Mimi ~ Maybe they should make 'Home Economics' a required college course... and include cooking, cleaning, laundry and how to balance a checkbook.

Beth - such a simple little thing.  I'll have to check to see if there are WARNING labels on a bottle of DAWN :)

Brenda - you would think so, wouldn't you?  But these brilliant kids were so dumb when it came to living life, I'm not sure it even registered with them that THEY were doing something wrong :)

Oh, Melinda!  What a CONCEPT!  Kids don't even take it in Middle School any more, and so many have mothers who work outside the home who don't take the time to teach them.  But these kids at this college, often, are from the higher social strata, and rarely did we find any kind of common sense in any of the groups. :)

Let me guess - these students are not majoring in Chemistry.

Mimi - your dishwasher is begging for an extra large sign: "Please do not feed me with Dawn." I hope you'll leave some instructions to guide your renters.

Fred - I'm sure WE never rented to Chemistry students :)

Liz - Because of the frequency of such mishaps, we are no longer Landlords - Praise the Lord! ;)
