Hi Suzi, this photo makes such a profound statement, doesn't it. It is sad that people have so little respect for the magnificence of what is naturally perfect and fail to understand when when their additions to perfect really mess it up.

The photo says it all.  Just this morning I was driving down one of our beautiful mountain roads and I hit a patch that was very, very littered with paper, bottles, etc, etc.  It's a disgrace.  Responsible people don't throw trash out their windows and they are the ones in many cases who are picking it up for the irresponsible who throw it out.

How difficult is it to keep a bag in your vehicle to put trash in and get rid of it at your destination.  It is just totally disrespected and devoid of pride in the beauty they despoil.

William, thank you for taking the time to comment. Litter drives me nuts. There just isn't any sense to it.

Sue, it is so sad that we find litter even in remote places. When we lived in Colorado and would take our little ones for a hike--it seemed no place was sacred. I hope my years of complaining in disgust to them at least made them responsible when they are away from me.

I remember once watching a man take his trash out to an ally where there were several large dumpsters--and he just dropped it. I spoke up--yep, he was a redneck alright.

This is my first attempt at Speechless Sunday. The two of you made it fun and definitely worthwhile. Thanks for visiting.

Suzi - it's a shame how inconsiderate many people are they enjoy a beautiful beach like the one in your photo that someone has taken the time to keep clean and attractive and they say thanks by leaving their trash behind

Kathy, thanks for noting the clean and attractive. We were one of the Gulf Oil Spill tar ball accumulation sites.

Harrison County Sand Beach seriously works at keeping the beaches clean, and groomed. This litter will be picked up by someone before end of day Monday--it would be better of course if the crew could attend to other things besides beach litter.

Thanks to each of you for visiting and commenting. I will visit you soon.

Suzi - I should say so!!  Takes less effort to carry it back essentially because it weighs less.  Why not!!!

This really says it all, I think it's sad to see people litter the world around them. But it is also why I love selling rural real estate, where the world seems so much cleaner....at least for now.

DeeDee, I wish all would see it that way. It takes so little effort and preparation to take out what you bring in, or, even to take out some of what you don't bring in. (I generally carry a previously used grocery bag with me--when I snap litter photos, I don't just leave the litter.

Thanks, Patricia. I have a huge collection of litter photos. I have considered starting some campaigns similar to one that I believe Australia started--seeking help from companies/manufacturers most frequently littered. I have plenty of shots to prove that "Bud and Bud Lite" are the favored beverage of Harrison County litterers.

Larry, that is one of many positive aspects about rural real estate. I really hate it when I think I'm getting away from it all--then find a lake, river, or pond littered. Hopefully your area will remain pristine.

Thanks for visiting.

Suzi,

We see this here in the desert, too.  People don't plan to carry out what they carry in.

Mike, thanks for stopping by. I have never understood litter or why I photograph litter, of all things. I have many more disturbing photos. Actually, I started photographing litter when I researched and read about a litter program that started in Australia called "return to sender". Even though Manufacturers and other food producers are not responsible for how their patrons dispose of litter, perhaps they can be convinced to sponsor litter programs at the local level. For example: I have many shots of Bud Light and Corona Extra that declares each the favored beer of that day's beach litterers, the same with McDonald's, Arbie's and believe it or not--bottled water.

Have a nice week.

Great photograph! Too bad it won't make an impression on those who litter. I live in a place of incredible beauty too, and every spring we have to undertake a huge trash pickup along the highways. So sad.

Tim, thanks for stopping by. I started taking litter photos and have quite a collection. I don't know why this one stands out--maybe because of the simplicity. So, I don't just gripe--often I pick up, too. It irritates me too much to wait for a formal group pick up, so I just do it. It is a great time to mix and mingle with beach visitors too. The hope is tha

t if people observe a citizen picking up after others, they will be less likely to litter.

Harrison County Beach Ordinance sign and beach view

It is amazing how many people will: 1) thank me for picking up; 2) gripe about litterers--so far no volunteers to pitch in. We also have our community pick ups.

From talking with beach users I have also found that many people do nothing because they know we have Harrison County Sand Beach (who really can't seem to pick up what I see), and sometimes Harrison County Prisoners to pick up.

I think I have seen improvement over pre-BP Oil spill.
