~ My Childhood Easter Breakdown - But I Can Laugh About It Now ~
This past week I seem to have found myself thinking about Easters gone by. I tend to do this whenever a holiday arrives. I think this is due in part to my living 1000 miles away from my family and childhood friends for the past 20 years. My memories of past Easters are all of happy ones, except one. Now I can laugh about it, but on that particular Easter I was far from laughing.
This particular Easter wasn't unlike any others, except that my sister and I got to hide each others Easter baskets. We no longer believed in the Easter bunny, so our parents decided to let us partake in the festivities. They hid the eggs around the house for us to find, while my older sister by 15 months and I were set on finding a hiding place for the baskets.
I don't remember where I hid my sister's basket, but I do remember where she hid mine! Why I was so upset, I think you may understand if you had been me. I know that I can laugh about it now. And I am sure you will laugh when I tell you. Maybe not because I couldn't find it, but because I got so upset about where she hid it. By now I am sure you are thinking of the many places where she could have hidden my basket that would upset me. But I will tell you, she found the basket that I hid for her and was enjoying all the treasures inside it. While I searched and searched all over the house, I started to get upset that she had stumped me and I couldn't find it.
As my sister had a tendency to do, she gloated about how I couldn't find my basket. I looked for at least a good half hour to forty-five minutes before I sat down in frustration. I had no idea where that darn basket was. And all my sister could do was smile and eat her chocolate. Would you like to know where my sister hid my Easter basket? On that day, I did too. But now you are getting a taste of how I felt that day and what I went through.
I can tell you this. The basket was not to be found under the kitchen sink or in any of the other kitchen cabinets. It wasn't in any closet in the entire house, not under any of the beds. I looked in our garage, in the car, in the bath tubs, under the bathroom sinks, or under any chairs in the house. Where, oh where could that basket be? Have you guessed yet? It wasn't just out in the open. It wasn't on the front porch, in the yard, or behind the couch...Do you want to know where that basket was????? I'll tell you. The cellophane wrapped basket that I looked and looked for was hidden.....in the bathroom, behind the toilet! Yep, behind the toilet!
