A Year of Growing Rich:  Get the Job You Want

Book Cover

This is the 17th week of a 52 week motivational journey and I want to invite you along.  Each week, I will touch on one of the chapters from Napoleon Hill's book titled  A Year of Growing Rich and subtitled "52 Steps to Achieving Life's Rewards."

If you would like you can pick up a new or used copy from Amazon for as low as a few cents  -- a great investment in your future.  Previous posts in this series can be accessed by clicking here.

You might want to bypass this chapter thinking that you already have a job. That would be a mistake.

For example, if you consider that your job is being a real estate agent, then every time you meet with a new buyer or seller you are actually applying for a job that you want.

"The service you perform in your daily work is a commodity that you must try to market to the best advantage," says Hill.

"Always take the long-range view in job hunting," says Hill. Remember to consider more than just pay. You may have a chance to learn, to gain experience, to get referrals and to advance.

Hill says, "Be sure not to oversell yourself. Don't promise something you can't deliver. Exaggeration is at best a shaky foundation on which to build a career".

The best way to get the job that you want is to go looking for it and use your imagination in selling yourself.

Hill concludes saying, "...let the boss be pleasantly surprised to discover you are giving him even more than you said you would--- it may even push you another rung up the ladder".

Chuck,  It really does take persistence.  I think that is one of the ways that this book is valuable because it is designed as a week by week guide for a year.

Gary, I love this series... now if I could only remember to order the book! And what a great statement this is; "Exaggeration is at best a shaky foundation on which to build a career".

Gary - They are all great suggestions, but my favorite is "Be sure not to oversell yourself." I always deliver more than I promise and that is what really impresses my clients. Never, ever let them down with promises you can't deliver on! Just love this book!

Gary, Napoleon Hill is one of my favorite authors. Great suggestion on doing more than you promise - it is better to surprise your clients with extra work than disappoint them with less than we promised. Have a great day.

Hi Gary~

I like to make sure I don't "over promise and under perform"

It is far better to under promise and over perform!...

Thanks for sharing Napoleon Hill quotes. I pick up one of his books every few months.

See you in the rain...

Hello Gary and VB is not looking for a new job but this does sound like a good read! And I wonder if I was to read this book if I could land a job as a "Movie Director" ... I have always dreamed of this!
