Pay it forward – Only Renting? No one willing to help.
I received a call this week from a woman whose husband is in the military. As many of you may know, military families are rarely in one place more than three years. Sadly, this means they are not given the same opportunity as the rest of us to settle down, establish roots and own a home. Their children make friends only to have to leave them behind time after time. The wife has the responsibility of picking up the pieces and trying to establish a new home in the new location.
I returned Jenn’s call and she thanked me profusely for getting back to her. She said after calling many agents, I was the only one to call back. She and her family will be in Indianapolis this week and need to find a home to rent for the next 2-3 years. After a nice, long conversation about the area and the schools, I told her I would set her up on an automated e-mail search for homes, and that either I or one of my team members would be happy to show her homes.
I put it out there for my team on a first come, first served basis. I was not surprised when no one responded. Here in the Carmel/Fishers area of Indiana, agents who help find tenants for rental properties are only paid 10% of the first month’s rent. This family wants to keep it under $1,300 which translates into $130 maximum fee paid to me. I just filled my tank yesterday and it came to $76.
So I will pay my respect and gratitude to this family for their sacrifices for our country by making sure they are well cared for. This is the very least I can do!!
