First Signs of Spring – The Rockefeller Preserve – Sleepy Hollow NY

After so much snow during the winter months and wet weather in general, it was great to get a nice day to simply go out and enjoy seeing the sun….I managed to escape to the Rockefeller Preserve around 4 PM for a late afternoon walk.  Although the spring has been late – I was determined to get some pictures that show spring is here….The peonies from the Peonies monument in honor of the victims of 9/11/2oo1 are starting to bud.  Soon they will be in full bloom, but in the meantime you can see the buds on the left.  The Cherry blossoms were in full bloom – so I was able to get a colorful shot.

The wildlife were sunning themselves.  Even the waterfowl were having a great time in the sun.  I ran into some rather photogenic Mallards as well as a Cormorant – all willing to pose for me!    The turtles never moved.  I don’t think they knew I was there to be totally honest…

Water Wild Life

The wild life provided me with more material.  They were out enjoying the day just like me and they didn’t seem to object to the camera.  The must have known I was lurking – but they were very polite and allowed me to do my thing.  Apparently they don’t mind being shot – as long as its with a camera and not a gun.

Yes, I can relate that spring is in the air and Ohio experienced a terribly long winter season, filled with frigid temps and heavy snowfall. I'm glad we didn't have too many ice storms! My daffodils are in full bloom, with wildlife appearing back around my pond area. Can't wait to put away the winter coat and sweaters!

Beautiful pictures, Ruthmarie.  Our flowers are starting to bloom out and we have even a couple of turtles sunning themselves on a log in our pond out back.

It certainly was a beautiful day yesterday. I still believe we will get one more snowstorm however.

RuthMarie - I always feel so bad for you all that live thru the winters you do but then I see shots like this and enjoy.

We in Calif. have had such weird weather. Hot then Cold, not as cold as you all, but the growth of our spring flowers are delayed as well. I have a listing that was hoping for a full bloom of Wisteria that is gorgeous in early spring and it has not been warm enough.

Nice wildlife shots too.

Hi Carla - I saw what you meant on your site about the wet winter....We could all use a break with spring weather.

Hi Bruce - the turtles were definitely appreciating the weather!

Hi Bob - Don't even THINK IT!!!

Hi Debbie - You can say that again!

Hi Ken - I know what you mean - I'm waiting for the peonies....i'm going to do a great spread on them when they finally bloom at the Rockefeller Preserve!

Hi April - We really  need to figure out how to export our rain to Texas....providing ALL of us with relief...I mean we can put a man on the moon...so why can't we.....

Hi David - The turtles looked REALLY HAPPY...Almost like they were saying "AH!!!! Now that's more like it!"
