I realized that I posted this initially just to the "Stage it Forward" group, but I've had such a wonderful, helpful response I really want it here in my blog as well.  Here's the inital post, and the first comments and suggestions I've gotten--once I've applied the suggestions I will post pictures of the 'Before" and "After"!

I have a listing, that, now that it's finally in 'show' condition--the piles have been moved OUT of the living room and into the garage...the living/dining area is totally, completely WHITE.  There is very little furniture left in the house, but I thought if I moved one of the couches from the den to the LR and maybe a table, it would at least have a little perspective?  What do you think?

really, really blank

I think some art will help with the white-use bright colors. The last all white house we did we used bright blue prints that helped the eye go to the art and away from the white. You might alos consider an area rug to anchor your sofa. Hope this helps.

Area rug--great idea, thank you, Cheri!  It does have some art on the walls, but it seems to get sucked into the white...

It depends on the condition of the furniture.. What does it look like?

Wow-that is really blah.  Any chance the seller would consider painting and getting rid of those vertical blinds?  I agree a rug would make the tile floor feel a little warmer.

Loretta - What is the focal point of the room?  Is there a reason the blinds are closed?  Do the blinds have to stay?  I'm with Cindy, what is the condition of the furniture?  What's opposite those windows?  I'd say an area rug too, but considering you're in Fla. I'd think of using a bordered sisal and maybe some iron pieces AND greenery in plants.

I see you have what looks to be a curtain rod.  Take advantage of it and add some soft drapery panels if you can.  Jackie's suggestion of a sisal rug is great - get some tan curtains to match and it will totally change the room.  If the sofa and table are in good condition, defiinitely move them in.  I'd love to see the 'after' photos!

Cindy-furniture is good, with a nice blue stripey thing going on...

Linda-blah is about it, I'm not sure about painting, outside of cosmetic touch-ups, but I like Jackie's idea of the sisal rug--good texture, and even if I can;t get rid of the blinds, maybe at least soften with some sort of panels, as Kimberly suggested!

You guys (sorry, gals) are great!  Thank you ALL so much!  I will post pictures when I get through--that's a great idea as well!

Great advice from all!  I suggest you call in a Professional Home Stager to work his/her magic! :)

Thanks, Janice--I wish we had a budget for that, but unfortunately on this one, no...but I have some other great listings coming up with a little more room to move!  I do believe in the proper staging of a home to market effectively!

Loretta - I am no stager, but I think white or off-white walls are actually welcomed by most people - they can easily change them! I have shown some really wild homes down here - One had lime green walls in 3 rooms and a yellowish orange in the kitchen and living room/dining room combo! It was a new home with fresh paint! They had lived there a year and moved on -

Everyone that saw it said the same thing: Wish those walls were white! White is easy to deal with - it covers easily when painting and makes the place look larger-

Then there was the house with the bright red walls in the living room - THAT was a real jolt!

I'm with you, Barbara Jo--white or neutral walls are a definite plus over some of the more dramatic wall treatments I've seen, yet TOO much white has a decidedly washed-out effect in this home, which has made it quite the challenge to present in photos.
